Thread: Swapics.sh--sync photos with two iTunes

    Default Swapics.sh--sync photos with two iTunes
    I use SwapTunes all the time and it occurred to me it would be great to do the same thing with photos. I don't have the mad skills for native app coding, but this bash script does the job.

    This is my first topic and I don't even lurk beyond the front page often. If this is in the wrong section, please just move it. I'm only trying to help. I'd love to see a real programmer take this script or just the idea and implement a real app to do this.

    So without further ado, here it comes. Sync with two PCs, hide your pornography or secret second life. Go nuts.

    #!/bin/bash
    cd ~/Media
    mv DCIM DCIM_tmp
    mv DCIM_2 DCIM
    mv DCIM_tmp DCIM_2
    echo "Photo libraries swapped!"
    I realize the echo line is optimistic, without error-checking. After putting swapics.sh in /usr/bin and giving it execute priviledges ... it gave me "invalid fork" errors. A couple cold boots cleared this up without any modifcation on my behalf, and I'm now successfully swapping camera rolls from the command line or from within Tapp.

    New code to get synced photos as well as camera roll:
    #!/bin/bash
    cd ~/Media
    mv DCIM DCIM_tmp
    mv DCIM_2 DCIM
    mv DCIM_tmp DCIM_2
    mv Photos Photos_tmp
    mv Photos_2 Photos
    mv Photos_tmp Photos_2
    echo "Photo libraries swapped!"
    Clearly one could easily add a line to emulate SwapTunes and switch music/video libraries, so you could never make the mistake of having computer A's music selected while you sync photos with computer B.

    Don't forget about the SwapPhoto app.

    I've attached it here in case you can't find it.

    Beautiful, thanks! This hasn't shown up on installer for me yet, and while I've trawled a few sites for other apps, I didn't have much luck. Just iSaber and it didn't work for some reason.

    My script is still the only app that does camera roll, photos, and music/videos in one execution, though! I wiped out my music while syncing photos once, because I had mismatched libraries...

    Obviously what I really need to do is put all my media on one computer and stop messing around with this unnecessary kludgery, but, uh, it's kindof fun.

    Oh I definitely like being able to swap my photo and iPod libraries (SwapTunes for iPod library).

    I sync iTunes on my primary desktop PC, not my laptop. So when I am on the road with my laptop I use SwapTunes in case I want to download a podcast or TV show from iTunes. Works great.

    For photos, well let's just say I don't want the guys to be looking at my romantic getaway photos, and conversely I don't want my mother-in-law to stumble upon my out-on-the-town with the guys pics.

    I keep both SwapTunes and SwapPhoto hidden on the springboard, and use Finder to launch 'em. That's enough to stop the casual observer--and me--from accidentally switching libraries.

    Oh yea, not that you need it, but I've attached SwapPhotos.
