Used iphone with tons of cydia apps. How to get rid of them.
I bought a used jailbroken iphone with tons of apps that I don't need.
iphone 3g with OS 4.2.1 BB 6.15.00
Here is a list of the apps. When I try to uninstall an app, it says it will uninstall all of my cydia apps.
APR
APT 0.7(apt-key)
APT 0.7 Strict (lib)
Base Structure
Bourne-Again Shell
bzip2
Core Utilities (/bin)
Darwin Tools
Debian Packager
Debian Utilities
Diff Utilities
Erica Utilities
Gnu Privacy Guard
grep
gzip
libhide
libstatusbar
LZMA
New Curses
PAM (Apple)
PAM Modules
pcre
pincrush
Profile Directory
readline
sed
shell-cmds
system-cmds
Tape Archive
UIKit Tools
What is the best way to get rid of these apps?
Thanks.

Sorry, but most of those are things you DO need.
They're not applications with an icon on your Springboard-
they're system utilities that are either required for Cydia or replacements for Apple system tools that make your iPhone run more effectively.
You can't easily replace the original unmodified Apple versions- so if you remove all the Cydia packages for them your iPhone will stop working altogether. The good news is that most of them aren't very big, and aren't taking up much space or memory.
If you really want to get rid of EVERYTHING that you believe you don't need,
you could restore to an official Apple version of the firmware (if the original owner had SHSH blobs saved). You'll lose the jailbreak, but that's life.MMi Site Search Bookmarklet

Thanks. I didn't have those on my ipod when I jailbroke it, so I figured they were for programing.

FYI: The iPad does not include Calculator, Timer, Stocks, & Weather apps normally found on iPhones.

OK.
This breakdown may not be perfect, but it should be close:
Essential Cydia components.
Cydia jailbroken replacements for essential system tools, because the Apple versions suck.Base Structure
Bourne-Again Shell
bzip2
Core Utilities (/bin)
Darwin Tools
grep
gzip
libhide
libstatusbar
LZMA
New Curses
pcre
pincrush
Profile Directory
readline
sed
shell-cmds
system-cmds
Tape Archive
UIKit Tools
Cydia jailbroken replacements for essential system tools, because the Apple versions suck.PAM (Apple)
PAM Modules
Special note:
Removing PAM will almost certainly hose your phone.
Common unix utilities probably required by other packages.Diff Utilities

It's possible you might get away with removing them, but I wouldn't risk it.
____
Some of the replaced programs really are "tools for programing" that ordinary users don't fiddle with all the time, but hackers and coders (and the iOS system itself) do. They really were on your iPhone before it was jailbroken, even if you don't remember seeing them before.
Yeah, it IS kindof a pain to keep track of.
Would be nice if saurik (or someone) would put an identifier in the package names, but generally packages with short names tend to be part of Telesphoreo and therefore things you probably don't want to mess with.MMi Site Search Bookmarklet
