I want to get rid of the icon besides the battery symbol, but I do not know where it comes from, there is no badge on any icon or sth.

    ok simple, go into the irealsms app and it will disappear...thats when u have an unread message inside the irealsms app not the regular native sms app then click on the unread message

    That was my first thought
    Your answer brought me to the idea to check biteSMS and the native SMS application, the whole functionality of SMS looks weird on my iP4 - when I send an SMS from another phone it shortly appears, seconds late it vanishes...but the icon remains.

    I will restore from a backup now. Thanks for your support.
