Thread: Screenshot app in Dock

    Default Screenshot app in Dock
Is there a way to pull this app out of the Dock program? It's got to be in there somewhere but I can't seem to find it. It would make taking pics of the iPhone so much easier.

    I would love this also.

With the screenshot app in dock, you can take a screenshot of (almost) anywhere on the iphone, because the dock can be brought up during games or apps or etc.

If you had the screenshot app on the springboard, you would only be able to take a shot of the springboard, because the screenshot is taken pretty soon after the screenshot app is activated...

Are you sure that you want to take it out of the dock program?

there is a program called snap2album by Erica Sadun.. i think it's part of Erica's Utilities. This allows you to take screenshots from your SSH command line.. So, unlike what phipman said, you can take a screenie of anything, as you can punch in a command over your SSH terminal regardless of what your iPhone is doing..

    I agree fully.
There needs to be an app that is simply screenshot. Either that, or a way to implement it into the home screen.

The current Dock really is bad btw imho. I likes v1 much better.

Yes, I agree. Too many times the Dock gets activated inadvertently when I get close to that sunburst. With the advent of Summerboard, I must admit that even with v.1, I would only use it for the screenshot feature. The Dock was great though...

i've been trying to "disect" the dock app to isolate the screenshot utility. If i can figure it out, i will see if i can make it to where you can set a delay before it takes the screen. seems pretty complex from what i've seen. We'll see.

The screenshot app is a command line app included in Erica utilities. If you get it, how do you plan on actually using it without Dock?

Maybe implement it as an app and one of these functions to use it:
    1) A delay - Set a period of time before the capture, like 10 seconds, so you can get to were you want.
    2) A gesture - ex: 2 fingers swipes down.
    3) Temporary sunburst - only run a sunburst after starting the app and close it when you selected screenshot from it.

    Just ideas for developers!

If you'd like that done, send an email to Erica along with a proposed donation, and I'm sure she'd be interested. As long as you're offering something as well!

With the new firmware, you can assign a task to the home button when you double click it. It would be cool to be apple to assign the screenshot program to that. That way, any program you are in you could easily snap a picture.
