Notifications not showing up

I cant remember but when on the lockscreen if i had an alert set on my calendar doesnt it normally show up in a square box.

Im not sure what i installed to make this happen but i dont get those alerts anymore, neither those nor new text or missed calls show up. does anyone no how i might fix this without doing a full restore.
