Fontswap screwed me........

Instead of hitting install font and respring phone, I hit install font and relaunch fontswap and it caused the phone to crash and now it is hung at the apple. I tried to SSH in and the phone doesn't boot up far enough to let me in, I attempted DFU and the phone is reluctant to go into DFU. With it not booting past the logo itunes won't see it to even restore and DFu is my only hope, but it isn't doing DFU for whatever reason. (I put phones into DFU all day - it's being stubborn).

This was skylars fix IF you could get in through wifi. http://modmyi.com/forums/native-ipho...tml#post259121

I'm sure I saw someone with this issue last week, but I don't have an idea of who and search isn't working as usual. It is only bringing up 1.1.4 fontswap issues.

I never had this problem with FontSwap, either version, but Ive had the same SSH issue where Ive had the SWOD and couldnt SSH in. I discovered that it would allow SSH but for a very short time so I had my terminal all ready to log on and my commands typed out in notepad so a quick copy/paste and I was able to get my phone fixed.

I know you are an expert and have probably already tried all the "tricks", but one other time I was about ready to give up and restore and on the 9th or 10th try of doing a hard boot, I decided to do the hard boot while plugged into the ac adapter , my springboard came back to life.

Yet another time i didnt think i could even get DFU mode on an old 2G, I dont even recall what I was doing at the time, but it did go into DFU but it took a different PC and holding home for over a minute and iTunes finally recognized it.

Like you said, you do this all day and probably have done all I have said, just trying to offer up some hope.

What I did was connect in through bonjour. That worked fine, but replacing the GCplist as skylar described has not resolved the issue. I'm still on the apple.

This might not work since iTunes doesn't recognize your iPhone, but for file access, have you tried a usb-connect tool like diskaid to delete/overwrite files on it? Dunno if Diskaid will even have the chance to connect though, but it's worth a shot.

If it did connect, what would be file you'd have to modify though?! I don't know.

Your issue sure sounds bad and it reminds me why I was sceptical about this app in the first place. Even though it's been working without any problems since I gave it a try.

Anyway, please keep us updated on how you solved this. Good luck!

Edit:
Didn't see your post before I wrote this. For info on what files to modify/overwrite, people on hackintosh IRC might be the right ones to talk to

At the moment I have deleted the fontswap app, and the var/mobile/library fontswapp app I replaced the fonts folder with a stock one from one of my other phones. I just don't know what other cache might be holding it back.

As a side note, after I removed fontswap from my other phone through cydia, the var/mobile/library/fonswapp app is still there! it only removed it through the main /app folder.

now I'm really screwed. It's not recognizing the USB so it isn't charging. I have to open it and stick a new battery and comm board in it to get it some juice and keep trying. It's dead as a door nail. (battery)

All this just from fontswap?! I wasn't aware a software program could interfere with hardware interfaces like charging the battery. I'm glad it hasn't given me any issues.

Yes it can. A bad MOBO can simulate a bad flex cable. I have 3 phones here doing it right now. The software staying in constant boot will not charge the battery through the flex cable. I had to stick a new comm board and battery in that was charged to keep trying to get it to go into DFU (Which I still have not).

I need to find out exactly what to delete to force it into DFU or recovery. It's still trying to boot.

I don't want to delete something and it not boot enough to SSH in or it wil REALLY be dead.

Anyone know exactly what can be deleted to force it into recovery so I can plug it into itunes? if it doesn't fully boot it can't be seen in itunes or charge..... I'm running out of phones to steal charged batteries from!

have you tried contacting the dev and asking just how it applies these fonts without actually changing the font? if it was an issue with actually changing the REAL font thats not an issue to fix but his app uses a process im not familiar with...i dont use it therefore. what i suggest is contacting the dev and asking how this works so you can clear all tracks of it and start from scratch. when i have my SWOD tools like iphonebrowser still worked for me. i dont use a mac so im not sure on that. keep us updated and let us know how it works. this app is a little too beta and dangerous to be releasing without proper instuctions on how to use it and WHAT exactly will cause problems

I can't go into DFU because the phone is not using the flex port until it is fully booted, I am wifi only and I'm running out of battery power..... again. I need to find out what I can delete to force it into restore mode.

I FRIGGIN GOT IT!!!!!!!!

Cool job! I almost made the same mistake myself once with FontSwap. Love the app, but caution taken.

I'm still not 100%. I have problems waking it from sleep, and when I plug it in, iTunes doesn't recognize it and when I plug it into windows upstairs it says USB malfunction so something is still screwy, but it IS booted finally. Now on to more issues..... It'll charge from the brick, not from USB so USB malfunction now on both comps.

Fonts are a tough area to screw with. Skylar was saying in the post I linked in the OP that just a simple certain font will stop you in your tracks. The fonts he has included work well, but that one button to install and restart font swao should NOT BE THERE. It will cause you a world of hurt.
