Question WTF is up with the new dTunes upgrade?

    Hi folks,

I've enjoyed using dTunes a lot, but when I checked Cydia a couple of days ago I noticed a new upgrade to dTunes, so I installed the upgrade... However, after upgrading I only got Mobile Terminal (which I didn't want btw) and dTunes is nowhere to be seen (even though Cydia claims it is installed)...

I've tried reinstalling a dozen times to no avail..

My firmware is still 2.1 btw. Does that have anything to do with this problem? Does dTunes now only support version 2.2 or something? I do not want to upgrade to 2.2. And is there any way to get the old version of dTunes back??

    Any ideas??? Please help!

why dont you want to update to 2.2??

its fixed bugs, more stable and most apps are only compatible with it.. so your loosing out on alot.
Being an i can be a lot of pressure. you have to live right up to the small point.

Why? Because I don't see v.2.2 bringing anything worthwhile. My phone works just fine the way it is, and I really don't want to go through the tremendous hassle of reinstalling all my Cydia apps and configurations.

If it is true that many apps are only compatible with version 2.2 now, I find that ridiculous to say the least. I really don't understand why an app cannot be compatible with previous versions of the firmware..??! Do the developers get some kind of restrictions by Apple or something? Is there really any viable reason WHY apps are not backwards compatible with previous firmware versions??? It's not like changing the OS or anything... I just don't get it.

If this is how it is going to be, I'm running screaming back to Symbian OS. Nazi-Apple can go fu@k themselves, I'm getting mighty sick of Apple's arrogance and forced restrictions. A great GUI and browser is just not cutting it for me anymore...

On my previous (Symbian) smartphones I've never been forced to upgrade the firmware to keep using a simple app, nor have I been forced to use one piece of software (iTunes) to transfer files. Not to mention being able to use Bluetooth freely to transfer files across devices and listening to music wirelessly. And free downloadable maps and turn-by-turn voice navigation... Oh, I miss a decent camera too, and being able to record 30fps VGA video... I could go on and on, but bottom line is; I'm starting to realize that the iPhone is simply not giving me the freedom I want out of my mobile device.

LMAO @ this topic.... First at the title.... Interesting way to gain attention to an thread to bytch about nothing. Secondly at crying about upgrading to 2.2.... So beacuse you see no point in upgrading to 2.2 that appstore apps are required to be backwards compatible to older firmwares....Hhhhhmmmm... I thought they were, and that 2.2 addedd better compatibilty too the apps... Hold on... how the hell did we get on the topic of appstore apps and 2.2 when dTunes isnt an appstore app and doesnt require 2.2... So lets get onto the next thing, did you happen to have dTunes hidden or in an category? If so, then that may be your problem. If not, then I dunno, but what I do know is the way you created this thread and all the BS you cryed about is not a way to get help on this forum. What a d1ck.... Ask for help, dont start off by crying and bytchin. I still love you though.

SSH into ~/Applications/. Check to see if there's a dtunes.app in there.

Right you were, sir. Unlike previous upgrades, this time I had to re-add dTunes into Categories and then it worked like a charm.

Aaah, I'm finally able to sit back and enjoy my porn again. That sure is a great stress reliever. Now, to wait for the N97 release and say bye-bye to the iPhone.

Oh yeah, I will b!tch and whine to my hearts content. If anyone has a problem with that you can all kiss my hairy scrotum.

You know, it is people like you that keep the iPhone from evolving into a full-fledged smartphone. If we stop whining about the iPhone's deficiencies, then we lessen the chance of Apple ever improving the damn thing.

A)When Apple supports jailbreaking and the application dTunes, then your argument will become valid.
B)There is a difference between whining and making suggestions. One of them is purely annoying but both of them will be listened to by Apple only if they feel like it. Creating threads b*tching and moaning about things that you feel should be there isnt going to get you what you want any faster. If Apple was your mom maybe, but they arent.

    A) My argument was of a general nature, not specifically related to this forum, sub-forum and forum thread.

    B) Having owned several dozen mobile phones since 1995, and smartphones since 2002, I have seen the effects of 'b*tching and moaning' for myself. Sometimes you have to shout to get peoples (manufacturers) attention. And the more people that do, the louder it gets. Not that it has a hundred per cent success rate of course - it never did on my mom either.

Exactly what my point was.. .A simple setup of a thread questioning if anyone else is having a problem with dTunes not showing up after upgrade would have be the better approcah instead of a dumb thread title and a bytch and moan reply, it would have been a much better conversation within the thread. Though you got your answer, and an obvious one at that, there wouldnt have been people jumpin down your throat.

Apple is going to do what apple wants to no matter if we suggest, ***** or complain. Apple is the only one as you say it "keeping the iPhone from evolving".

How To Upgrade In iTunes | iPhone News, Help and Guides

Read this. Using aptbackup, you can have the iphone reinstall all your cydia apps after the upgrade.

You sound like a ***** btw. Your question would have been easily answered with the slightest amount of research.

Oh yeah and torrent support is awesome. Just finished watching wanted which i torrented using dtunes and mobileterminal.

Dtunes basically allows you to remember less code for mobileterminal and offers an excellent way of organizing any and all downloads.
