    Default SummerBoard broken in 1.1.4

    For SummerBoard version 3.1-1

Could be an easy fix however, when I try to install it it says "Firmware 1.1.3 is required."

Hopefully there will be a new version that supports 1.1.3/1.1.4 since they are close.

I did not see this post the first time I looked but it looks like there is a fix available (hopefully a new version will come out that supports the install though):

add the blaze software source and then look for 1.1.3 patch or something it will tell the iphone its 1.1.3 but still be 1.1.4 and let you install apps again

The installer script is set to check for firmware 1.1.3. One option is to make your firmware report back as 1.1.3, but I heard that has issues until you're done with the install and unhack of the version number.

Another way is to download SummerBoard 3.1 from http://mac.softpedia.com/get/iPhone-...merBoard.shtml

Decompress that and also be sure to make a backup of your original com.apple.SpringBoard.plist on your phone by:

    mv /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.SpringBoard.plist.stock

Then read the included INSTALL file. Install the rest of SummerBoard except the SummerBoard/Themes folders, we'll get to that. Power the phone off then back on. You shouldn't need to fiddle with permissions and it should just work. But before installing the stock themes and any others, do these next commands to ensure themes install in the proper locations:

    ln -s /private/var/mobile/Media /private/var/root/Media

    ln -s /private/var/mobile/Media /private/var/Media

    mkdir -p /private/var/mobile/Library/SummerBoard/Themes

    ln -s /private/var/mobile/Library/SummerBoard /private/var/root/Library/SummerBoard

That linked the other (and potentially used) Media locations to the one under mobile. It also created the SummerBoard directory with the Themes directory as well as linking it to where it might be used by older software. Now you can copy the contents of that Themes folder inside the SummerBoard folder from the archive, lets say we're inside that folder SummerBoard came in:

    cp -Rp Themes/* /private/var/mobile/Library/SummerBoard/Themes/

And you're done. New themes will install to the proper location and show as well. The "1.1.3 themes fix" script won't work under 1.1.4 due to version checking, so after installing new themes it's advisable to ensure proper permissions (some themes don't have the right ones set after installation, not many but still can cause problems) you should do the following on the phone after installing new themes (but before choosing any of them):

    chmod -R 0755 /private/var/mobile/Library/SummerBoard/Themes/*

    Good luck!

install openssh and connect to your phone. navigate to /system/library/coreservices/ and download the systemversion.plist. Then go to where you downloaded it on your computer, and open it with a wordprocessor like TextEdit. In this plist, change where it says your version is 1.1.4 (it will be towards the bottom) to 1.1.3. This tricks the phone into thinking its 1.1.3, so that you are no longer restricted from 1.1.3 apps

Cool getting summerboard to work on 1.1.4

ive recently fixed my problems with summerboard 3.2 on my 1.1.4 iphone should work the same with ipod touch not sure dont have one to try it on

Note: this helped me fix permissions for the themes to be veiwed in the themes section of the summerboard application i was able to install it but the themes wouldnt show up there not event the default ones

    hope this helps

its the permissions if you havent figured that out and you can go in and set them up manualy by downloading the mobilefinder app from ste and by going to the following file names and tapping the modify button on the bottom middle of the finder app (i chose to select in the groups owner group and everyone all the following permissions; read, write, and exec) you may not have to choose them all but thats what i did and it worked after so the folder names are in reverse order summerboard then hit the up button at the top left, then the same modify routine with library, and up again, then with mobile the same permissions, then up again, now var modify those permissions, then up once again, then finally private set those permissions the same as i did above. click the home button and the summerboard theams should appear and work hope it helps

(Caution this may not be the most secure solution but it works)
    p.s.
im not responsable for any damages that occor to your iphone or ipod touch its your choice and you can allways set them back later if you want.

    Default Summerboard fix?

You say to modify " the following file names" to fix the Summerboard/1.1.4 problem but I don't see the list of file names and would greatly appreciate your specifying which ones to change.
    Thanks.

Works fine on my 1.1.4, but I'm thinking about uninstalling all my "appearance" apps and just theming my phone from SSH.

Hey there is a easier way to fix SummerBoard, just install SUID Lib Fix and restart the phone (hard restart) and there u go SummerBoard up and running.
