PDANet trial alert
Has anyone noticed with PDANet v1.40 a pop-up alert stating the trial has ended? The developer didn't post a comment in Cydia that the app was a trial only. I get this message with a comment stating something about having to use HTML. This happens just before the window disappears and the data connection appears to timeout? I can't find any comment on the developer site stating the version for the iPhone is only a trial and will require payment to register it. Every review glorifying this app refers to it being free for the iPhone. Possibly it's a bug. Also I'm wondering if anyone has tried iPhone Modem as I would like to know how it compares to PDANet?

I wonder when att introduces their tethering apps like this will be blocked somehow.
I have used pdanet with no issues but $30 seems a little steep

Please, please, PLEASE tell me how to downgrade it to 1.33. I just got the Trial Expired alert this morning and I don't want to lose the features.
Thanks in advance.

I confirmed PDANet is no longer free as it's only allowing data access over HTML. To get the full unlocked data access we now must pay $29.00 through http://my.iphone/ which is insane. I have no issue with paying $9.99 for a tethering app but not $29.00. Guess the developer of iPhone Modem will be getting my business as they only charge $9.99 to tether.

Google "modmyi repo" and manually download the deb file and install it with mobile terminal.
If you want version 1.33, do a google search for "modmyi repo." Click the first link you see, then click "debs2" (or 2debs, or whatever). Scroll down until you see pdanet1.33.deb, right click it and save to your computer.
Then, SSH that into your phone and drop pdanet1.33.deb into /var/root/.
Using MobileTerminal (get if off Cydia if you have to) type in "su," then type in your password, which is "alpine" by default. Then type in the command dpkg -i /var/root/pdanet1.33.deb. Wait for it to get done.
Then restart/respring your phone. This method works as of 11/13.Last edited by jcde7ago; 11-13-2008 at 07:22 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Wont that be a slap in the face when everyone has v1.33 bypassing having to pay for it

Did you uninstall v. 1.40 with Cydia before doing this?
Also, why using MobileTerminal rather than the Terminal window from your Mac (after SSH to it)? MobileTerminal is a bit awkward to type in
EDIT: BTW, I just tried PDAnet v. 1.40 and it works, I didn't get the 'expired trial' thing. Anybody knows why?Last edited by marcoiac; 11-13-2008 at 08:09 PM.

One other thing, is there a way to stop Cydia bugging me to update to 1.40 or at least hide the update icon from Springboard?

I do have a different problem. After unpacking the .deb, PDAnet.app is in the Application folder, I just checked, but it does not show up on the SpringBoard! I rebooted and respring a couple of times, nada. Any suggestion?
EDIT: AppFlow sees it, but it can't launch it. Permissions seem fine. Weird. Any help?
EDIT2: So, I launched Cydia, and it immediately says I have an upgrade, obviously PdaNet. I quit Cydia without upgrading, and suddenly PdaNet appears on my SpringBoard and launches fine. I guess to get rid of the update badge on the Cydia icon one should modify the Info.plist file in PdaNet.app, changing the version number from 1.33 to 1.40.Last edited by marcoiac; 11-13-2008 at 10:44 PM.

Well I just tried modifying the info.plist file and respringed (is that a word?) but Cydia still doesn't think its version 1.40. The version number that Cydia uses must be stored somewhere else.
