Default help! iPhone won't turn on.

So I forgot my USB cable at home while travelling this week. Luckily, the clock radio in the hotel room had a iPod dock on top. I plugged my iPhone in and everything was good. While docked and charging, the phone rang, so pulled it from the dock to take the call. When I went to return it to the dock, the screen went crazy with colors. I pulled it again and tried redocking, but again the same problem. then I noticed the phone was getting really hot in my hand, so turned it off and put it on the A/C. After a minute, I turned it back on and noticed the battery had lost like 50% of its charge. I disconnected the clock radio from the wall to see if it was receiving some kind of weird charge, but again the screen went crazy with lines and colors when I put it on the dock, and started heating up. So finally, I shut it off once and for all. A red battery icon came up on the screen requesting I plug the phone into a charger, but I was done trying to I just let the battery die. I just got home tonight and tried plugging the phone into my normal charger and now it won't respond. I've had it in for about 30 minutes now and still it won't turn on.

Did I fry this thing or is it stuck in some limbo mode? When I plug it into the computer I don't get the Windows noise that it recognizes the device, so I'm assuming it's actually off.

Anyway, if anyone has an idea or has been through something like this before, I'd appreciate any help in fixing the situation. It's a 2G phone.

Have you tried to restart the phone by just holding the power and home button for 10 seconds? I'm not very confident this will work since you said your computer doesn't recognize it when you plug it in but its worth a try.

yeah, def tried the home/power thing, everything possible combination and time length. I feel like the phone is fried, but i'm shocked since it was working before the battery died. i guess i'll just need to take a trip to the apple store.

Same thing happened to me, your battery is completely fried. If it's a iPhone 3G and under warranty still bring it to the apple store and get it replaced for free.
