dTunes + Safari Download Plug-in
I accidently deleted my Downloads folder (located in var/mobile/Library/) and I recreated the folder in the same location and now every time I try to download files on Safari or dTunes (I use MewSeek now, so I don't care about dTunes) it says: Download failed. Could not start saving file. I've tried reinstalling, and removing and installing, but nothing works. Any suggestions?

did you try changing the permissions of your download directory?
777 gives rw (read/write) access to all

Remove the Downloads folder completely and then try to download something. The folder will be recreated by the plug-in and should work perfectly after that.

Neither removing nor changing to 777 worked for me on FW2.1 or 2.2. It's fairly annoying, really.
EDIT: I'm trying reinstalling the Safari Download app since that's the portion causing the problem. It seems to have changed nothing though.
EDIT2: I did a but of searching and noticed that the Safari Download plugin shows the filename at the top left of whatever you're trying to download and it wasn't doing that for this file. It seems the problem wasn't with the directory it's trying to save to but the filename of what I was trying to save. It doesn't handle special characters well (different languages). Seems to work fine otherwise.Last edited by crashspeeder; 01-03-2009 at 11:04 AM.

dTunes+Safari DL
If any of you happen to be as bonehead as me when I "accidentally" upgraded my iPhone into 2.2.1 w/o using Pwnage, there a quite a few things you wil need to get some functionality back on your iPhone.
It is definitely TRUE that once you have updated your Modem Firmware into 02.30.03, there is no going back. You will just have to wait for the Dev Team to come up with a new way to crack this new Firmware. And as far as I know, you will lose every functionality on your iPhone including the use of Yellowsn0w as well as **********, Crackolous, dTunes, etc.
So on with the fix or (semi-fix). You can modify your iPhone to get all the functionalities to work again except for Yellowsn0w, which needs to be worked on still be the iPhone Dev Team to make it work on 2.2.1.
If you get an error message each time you try to Download something from dTunes or ********** saying that "Download failed. Could not start saving files.". The fix for this is to do the following;
1. Go to Cydia U
2. Uninstall Safari DL
3. Reboot your iPhone
4. Select Terminal from your Applications
5. Login as su (superuser) pw: alpine
6. Navigate to /var/mobile/Library
7. Modify the rights to the Downloads folder to 777
----> chmod 777 Downloads
8. Type exit
9. Close Terminal App
10. Reboot your iPhone
11. Go to Cydia and Download ********** and or dTunes
12. Do a Download
13. And you should be all set
Again this will only allow you to get cracked Apps and not get Yellowsn0w working again. If you need Yellowsn0w to work on 2.2.1, you will just have to wait for the Dev Team to crack it, just like me.....
