twitter.com/dale1vMicrosoft owns the internet through Hotmail. The .HTML is short for Hotmail, so all .HTML files are MS files.

that sux...i was planning on installing Apollo today.
I guess I'll wait until someone (anyone) steps up to the plate with a workable IM app.

what exactly needs to he done, or who should we contact to re-start development on this application? I know a LOT of people, including myself dying for Appolo to work properly.
Thanks

Yes, both never worked properly for me. Apollo even managed to get my phone stuck for a good 10 minutes (holding down home button, power button, or both didnt help. I had to wait for it to fix itself which was really really really nerve-wracking). So I use Beejive

okay, so whats the big answer here???? where's our reliable chat client????? i'm scared because even after all of these years there's STILL no reliable client for windows mobile. and don't say agile messenger, because it suffered from many of the same exact issues people are talking about in this thread. sidekicks do IM'ing amazingly well (just about the only thing they're good for) WHY CAN'T ANY OTHER PLATFORMS DO IT??? i want to stay online all the time and not worry about missing messages etc.
and all of that brings me to another question: whats the power model the iphone uses? cell phones use up very little battery power when you're not using them because of the power model they use. thats how they are able to never go to sleep. windows mobile devices MUST GO TO SLEEP in order to not eat the batteries alive. This is a big reason why a reliable client never appeared for windows mobile IMHO. is the same true for iphone? will we never see a client that allows us to be on all the time (like a sidekick)? Will Apple step up to the bat on this one??
and also: is apollo really dead?
and also also: how come no one has posted in this thread in 2 weeks? Apple left a big hole in my springboard where ichat should be. doesn't anyone else care? Who will be the community's saviour in the HUGE market of IM'ing?
and also also also: i don't mean to sound un-appreciative of the community and the hard working independent developers. I know this stuff takes a lot of hard work, and i'm very appreciative for every single new app i install on my iphone (with NO help from apple). But, lacking any ability of my own, i really do hope someone steps up to the challenge.Last edited by b3nny; 01-05-2008 at 04:54 AM.

Apollo is dead as a dodo, Mobile chat is actually okay except for the issue of only being able to sign in to one service at a time, so Meebo or Beejive are the most useful for me. Since one has to be online at the time, its not such a hassle, and for me, Beejive is the go, because atleast it will vibrate the phone if another message comes in when you are IMing with different people at the same time.

I use IM forwarding for AIM. IM's count as texts, but its reliable. I doubt chat over edge can be reliable. you can miss messages. i sign onto mobilechat to check my buddylist, then initiate an IM, then quit. then i can be sure i get IM's when they come.
I wish there was a program that checked your buddylist, and turned AIM IM forwarding on and off. without changing your status from mobile aim. that would be excellent and simple. it would also be kinda cool if SMS.app would recognize AIM messages, and not display the extra parts of the message, just displaying "USER: message" and saying the message is from that user. would be easy.

Can you explain your IM forwarding? It sounds cool for a quick question or something...

Basically you are always 'online' and your buddies can IM you even if you aren't logged in and these IM's will go to your iPhone as text messages. On the buddy list you will show up with a little phone next to your name. You can set up quiet hours too so you dont get texts at 4AM. You do all this through AIM btw

Yep. Apollo is so so s*** that I've hidden the icon away from my SpringBoard; I'm so ashamed of it. Now I will only use it in dire, dire emergencies.
