I can't SSH into my Ipod Touch!
Setup: Ipod touch 1st Generation with Firmware 2.1 jailbroken by Quickpwn 2.1
I have Cydia & Installer; Installed OpenSSH using Installer. Can't find BSD Subsystems. I also installed Terminal, command 'passwd mobile' and changed the password from alpine to passwd. Used WinSCP, but I get the "Network error: Connection refused." error.
HELP!!!!!

Restarted lot's of times. But I'll try again. Thanks for your quick reply

Btw I downloaded MobileTerminal and I typed "passwd root" but I get permission denied. Why and how to fix it?
Also I'm trying OpenSSH from Cydia is it okay?

Okay here's what I do.
1) Cydia > Search > OpenSSH > Install
2) Restart
3) Verify the password of user 'mobile' using Terminal
4) Log in using WinSCP
5) Fail

Are you using the SSH protocol on the drop down menu, in your SSH client>
iPhone 4 | iMac 24" | MacBook Pro 15" | ATV | iPod Classic | Time Capsule | iPad 16 Gb |

ah, you're getting permission denied ecause you're trying to change the root password while logged in as mobile.
In mobile terminal type in: "su" (without quotation marks
It will ask for the password, type in alpine, and then type in 'passwd root'.

I'm using WinSCP and my protocol dropdown is selected "SFTP". Port number 22 username and password correct; private key file blank. Still getting connection refused.
Okay finally I'm not getting an "Permission denied" error. But SSH still can't be performed. Help!
Update: After disabling Comodo firewall I get "Server unexpectedly closed network connection" after "Searching for host" and "Connecting to host"Last edited by gameboyzz; 10-17-2008 at 05:49 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Just leave it at alpine; no one's going to be accessing SSH on your iPod without you knowing anytime soon.

You're doing something wrong. Uninstall ssh, do the whole process again. Tell me how it goes, word by word.

After uninstallation of OpenSSH (Cydia's) and a restart...
1) Open Cydia, Search OpenSSH, Install
2) Restart
3) Router portforwarded for iPod AND my PC, port 22 opened for both TCP and UDP; Windows Firewall disabled; WinSCP treated as FTP client for Comodo Firewall, all permissions allowed
4) Find IP, Enter into Host field in WinSCP; Port set to 22, Username root and Password alpine; Protocol SFTP, click Log in.
5) Error: "Server unexpectedly closed Network Connection".
461am so you got any tips?

okay, I've been thinking, and to be honest, I can't find a proper solution. Disconnect your router from the net, open all ports, and then try.

How to dc the router from the net and open all ports?
Finally it works! I restored firmware 2.1 and rejailbreak it
