Share iPhone data with another iPhone
Here is what I want to do but not sure if it is possible.
I have the $30.00/6GB with Rogers wireless and would like to share the data with my wife's iPhone. I called in to Rogers and they said that is not possible because it is not part of the promotion.
So, upon reading up on the tethering tools to tether your iPhone to your laptop etc. Would it be possible to have my wife tether her iPhone to my iPhone so that she is using my data plan?
Also does anyone know if there is additional costs for doing this?
Lastly what is the best app to achieve this?
Thank you.

As I mentioned in the tethering thread, I use a 3G iPhone 2.1 connection on a 2G 1.1.4 and it works well. I use PDAnet from Cydia.
I don't see why this would not work with two 3G iPhones, or a 3G and a Touch for that matter. The 2nd device recieves the 3G connection as a WiFi network.
There are no additional costs I am aware of. I mainly use this for the OrbLive app to watch live TV.
Edge is too slow and OrbLive has not yet been released for 2..x (it is coming _ there is a beta being tested).
Unfortunately, I must initiate the adhoc network while near my pc at home. After that I can use it anywhere. If there is a way to initiate it away from the pc I've not found it.

you are aware that if you get this to work you are limited to how close you are to one another. I would say over a black away she won;t get anything anymore. Seems pointless to me but if you are aware of that limitation it might be worth it for you.

So does this mean as long as i am with here, she can connect? Do I need a home computer to do this?

yes, as long as you're with her. As far as the home computer, yes it is there you would initially set up the ad-hoc network. I generally join the network on my 3g iPhone before I leave home. Then, as long as I don't join any other wifi network while Im out it will remain on that network. At this point the phone shows the 3g symbol although it is connected to the ad-hoc wifi network. The 2G phone recognizes this network and I join. Now the 2G iPhone has the wifi symbol although it is using the 3g connection.
The Pdanet website has instructions for setting up the adhoc network.
It is best to keep the 3G plugged in (I use the car adapter) as it uses a lot of power.

Thank you for tips, I managed to get it working. I just wished there is a way to keep the network properties so it can allow me to shut off wifi and still be there when re-enabled.
