Reboot often or get App Crashes in 2.1
I just wanted to see how many other people out there are dealing with this on the 2.1 firmware. Ever since the release of 2.0, the iphone OS has been woefully unstable. After upgrading to 2.0, my iphone would crash nearly everytime I used the mobile appstore to download applications. When that happened, the only way to get my phone back up and running was to do a complete restore, which took nearly 3 hours to complete. This happened to me countless times, and I was about ready to throw my iphone against a brick wall.
Well then finally, Apple released the 2.1 software update. This update has addressed many other problems I was having since 2.0's initial release, but I have now found that I have to reboot my iPhone at least once a day or my applications become virtually unusable.
Here is what I have experienced. If I have not rebooted my iphone in the past day or so, many applications will crash repeatedly. This happens with Mail, Safari, Cydia, Cycorder, and applications I purchased from the Appstore. For example, Mobile Safari is basically unusable until I reboot my phone. I will load up a web page, and once I start scrolling around the page, the app closes and dumps me back to the main screen, try again with the same results. The time which it takes for the app to crash seems to vary depending on the application, but it is happening in just about every application I use.
Has anyone else experienced this? More importantly, has anyone found a fix????
Thanks

Same here. I find I have to reboot every couple of days. Otherwise apps get wonky and/or crash.

2.1 has fixed some of the more annoying traits of the 2.* firmwares but is still a bit buggy, but I think some of the problems are with running jailbreak apps against app store apps, and the failure of some apps to close properly. I have found some app store apps if you lock the iphone without closing them first still kind of run - on games I have heard the game music still playing while the iphone is locked. Force closing (keeping the home button held down until the app closes rather then just pressing it) seems to help this issue, and for me reduces the need to reboot. I only have jailbroken iPhones so I have no idea if clean firmware versions still suffer these issues or not?

@Robcoffee
Yeah, 2.1 is definitely a huge improvement over 2.0.x. I'll try your suggestion about forcequitting, and see if that improves the phone's performance. Thanks for the response!================================

Found a must read about ram usage and apps. This might help you with crashing app problems along with your phone bogging down.
