Your app store apps will resync with iTunes like your music, photos and videos. If you restore from backup your settings will also be kept. any 3rd party apps you downloaded from Cydia will have to be reinstalled.

So if I go into iTunes right now and create a backup...it won't give me grief over having a custom firmware(3G iPhone/WinPWN2.5)?

Then when 2.0.3 comes out I can WinPWN with that firmware and restore from the previously mentioned backup? (Minus Homebrews of course)

When I tried to restore from a backup after PWNing my phone it gave me a "Corrupted Backup Error". I don't want this to happen again.

What you describe is technically true. One may restore from back up and usually iTunes doesnt have an issue although sometimes some of the apps don't work right. This is why it is generally a good idea to restore as "new". I had never seen tht happen but like you I was going to be lazy and try to restore from backup after the latest Winpwn i did since I was staying on the salme firmware. I had used quickpwn where we actually used teh 2.0.1 firmware to jailbreak the 2.0.2. When Winpwn 2.5 came out i decided to redo the jailbreak and figured since it was the same firmware i'd restore as backup. Well I got the same message as you did so restore as new it was.

What you will do is "SYNC" your info, not restore from backup. I found that generally corruption can occur in the backups, so as i said earlier always restore as "new". A sync will put your music, videos, photos back on the iPhone. it will also resync your contacts and calendar if you have that info on your computer as well. You need to be careful after a restore as new because you will need to make sure you check off the boxes at the bottom of the iPhone's info tab in iTunes so that the sync will replace the information on the iPhone this sync only. Otherwise, the sync may delete whats on your computer.

All that you will miss by not restoring from backup is that you will have to reset all your settings and preferences like locations in weather app, wifi password, choice of ringtone, etc...

Hey guys, I'm kinda new at this having recently Jailbroken my iPhone and I have a few questions along this same topic.

I made some new custom ringtones that I wanted to add to my phone. I havn't any since jailbreaking. When trying to sync the new "Ringtones Library" it gives me that "Synced with another library" message. I don't want to do it if it is going to erase all of my downloaded and jailbroken content. Which is why I was looking if there was a to back up the jailbroken apps/features if something went wrong.

Is there another way of doing this? Will it only delete the ringtones or everything outright?

The sync feature only deals with your music, ringtones, photos, contacts, etc. It will change all of those if they are not the same as your last sync. Say if you removed or added music, photos, etc the sync will do the same to your phone.

It will create a backup however, which is not a bad thing. This way if your phone craps out you have a recent backup. '

There is an app that backs up the data from your apps, but I cannot remember what it is called. Appbackup or something rather.

Ok, I had to change computers hence when i tried syncying my iphone with that other computer it told me the entire "Synce and erase" ordeal. To answer your question:

If you click sync and erase it WILL NOT delete any of your jailbroken apps!

However, it will delete your music, so make sure you have all your music in itunes and your contacts synced.

If this helped say thanks! later

Just to let everyone know. Winamp will get the music off your ipod and pull it out of itunes too. This could help.
