Boss Prefs v2.12b - Disable Apple App Killswitch
Just updated this and found this in the More setting option.I`m very inclined to use this as i don`t want to lose PhoneSaber(i have it backed up for a fresh fw install) but would like to know if it has any other effects,my googling skills are only telling me what it is and what it does.

There's no "Kill Switch". All you have to do to stop the iPhone from phoning home is edit /etc/hosts and add the line "127.0.0.1 iphone-services.apple.com"
Get "iPod & iTunes for Dummies", it'll change your life.

I heard that it blocks the IP address the kill switch uses.

The iPhone "calls home" to report any "bad" apps and can kill them so they do not function. Disabling it through Boss prefs is an easier way than going in and using the text editor. Update Boss prefs through Cydia to see the option.

I have no idea. All I'm saying is that bossprefs is easier. There is no arguing with that.

Well if you look at my post, and interpret it correctly, I said there's no "Kill Switch" so why Big Boss is calling it that is beyond me. Secondly, its simply a file mod; a rose by any other name...

Is it a hardware feature in the 3g or is it for all 2.0 firmwares?

omg
Really people,
if you dont know anything, please just dont write nonsense!
The iPhone does in fact NOT contact Apple to tell them what 3rd party apps you are using.
It only downloads (not uploads) a blacklist with programs forbidden by Apple, up until now there is no app on this list, and only programs using GPS can be disabled.
The iPhone does NOT send ANY information about the programs you are using to Apple (at least no other information than the feedback for AppStore-Apps you can give after deleting them)Last edited by macmaker; 04-02-2009 at 05:22 PM.
