Erica Utilities are meant only to be command-line Unix utilities. They may be generally useful, but unless you're using an ssh connection to your iPhone and you've installed at least a large part of the Unix Binkit, they're not going to do you much good.
Many of the items in EU have normal application equivalents. Playaudio and recordaudio are command-line versions of Voice Notes for example.

If you use tar at the command line (which was the intent), it will create the folders.
If you do it by hand, you may have to create /usr/local and then /usr/local/bin.
I'm not sure how Ste set up the Installer.app package if that's the way you're doing it.

I got the screenshot to execute from WinSCP in the Terminal execution line but it of course goes to the /tmp directory and is named as f_00.png everytime. Anotherwords, it overwrites the last one. So I have to move the file to my C
drive, rename it and then go back and do another screenshot.
Is there any command syntax that I can put after the screenshot in the terminal line so that it goes to a directory of my choosing or at least where I can name the file that it saves it to?Last edited by abalfour; 09-01-2007 at 08:08 PM.

If you type' snap NameYouWant ', It will save PNG file in root directory.

It is just a command line that Erica Utilities enables you to use.

Got it...thanks...
I hadn't been following the threads from the beginning so I had no idea what you people were talking about...
Now, I see and realize what all the talk is about on several of the forums...
NES, Launcher and many others...
Thanks again...you have cleared things up a lot for me...
FOOTNOTE for other "Newbies": After you put the EricaUtilities on your iPhone...in order to use snap...you must also put cp in the /root/bin/ folder and chmod it to 0555, otherwise the snap FILENAME will not work and make a f00.png in the /root/tmp/ folder and a bad FILENAME file in the root directory. I figured this one out "all by my little self"...

adding paths
You need to edit the file /etc/profile
Up near the top you will see a line similar to this:
PATH="/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/libexec/"
export PATH
etc. and so forth..
you need to add /usr/local/bin to that line.. it is a colon delimited list so that means you seperate each directory with a : instead of a space. Once you added it then save the file and OPEN A NEW PUTTY SESSION and test it, do not close your current one until you know it works.
good practice to get into to avoid problems =)
also, I find snap2album is a lot more useful than snap, because then it goes into the camera roll which is not only easy to find, but it's also viewable natively from the iPhone Photos app.

Yes, 'snap2album' is useful if the JPEG conversion works better than now. You get much lower quality than PNG snap.
I thought that Dock App is using this utility to take their screenshot. But for some reasons, The screenshot by Dock App looks better JPEG than this.
I'll stick with PNG file from 'snap' for now._/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/

I keep getting permission denied when i try running any utils (e.g. 'snap')
Reinstalled the utilities twice, checked the permissions of the executables (755) and edited my 'etc/profile' to include '/var/root/bin'.
worked fine a few days ago.
what gives?Last edited by veracocha; 10-31-2007 at 10:50 AM.
