Extended Preferences Hack v0.3 (By the original author) [56k warning!]
IMPORTANT UPDATE!
Hey all,
There are a numerous amount of bugs, so p_f and I decided that we should pull it from the source for the time being, then it can be put back up once I work out all of these bugs.
Thank you for your patience!
FIX - 9:42 AM Fake Time Issue and AT&T Fake Carrier Issue!
(This bug is being fixed for v0.4, but this is a temp fix) Navigate to /private/var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.springboard.plist and delete:
-SBFakeTime
-SBFakeTimeString
-SBFakeCarrier
Now don't just delete that text, but the area that has either <integer>1</integer> or <string>AT&T</string> or whatever is there must be deleted too
What is this hack? I think I may have heard of it before...
This greatly extends the functionality of your Preferences.app, adding features to your iPhone such as Auto-Dim, Fake Bars, Fake Time Text, Enable/Disable On-The-Go on the iPod player, all the features of SummerBoard, and more!
You may have heard of, seen, or even installed this from an installer source. What happened was I had shared the code for the proof of concept of this, v0.01, with some people at the #iPhone-Dev IRC channel, and some decided to take it upon themselves to rearrange it (in a more messy manner in my opinion) because they probably didn't know what they were doing and put it up on an Installer source. Now, this wasn't anyone on the iPhone Dev Team remember, it was a random person in the IRC channel that 'wanted to know more about my discovery'. An article later appeared in TUAW about how someone had made a way to integrate the 'Six undocumented SpringBoard functions' into Preferences.app, plus more. Upon further inspection, those people seem to have copied off of the person who ripped off me, at least doing a better job and even finding one function that I hadn't found yet. Anyway, now that we have that cleared up and you know I didn't just rip off someone, let's move on...
Okay, can you show me what it looks like before I install this?
Sure, here are some screenshots. Remember that we are way past the stage of the proof of concept, so it looks nicer and has more features:

Do you plan on making any updates to this hack/tweak?
Of course! v0.4 is already in early beta/late alpha stage!
In these updates you speak of, will you be adding more options to the Preferences.app to make my iPhone even more customizable, or will you just be making it look better?
We plan on doing both. As more and more is discovered about the iPhone, we will be there to make it easier for the regular end user to use (Come the SDK in February, those without the brain compacity and/or desire to jailbreak won't have to be left out either!)
What if I don't like this and just want to go to the plain old boring Preferences.app (Or if I have to take a trip to the 'genius' bar)
The uninstall is made so that it just reverts to a backup that is made in /private/var/root/Library/Preferences.app/ upon installation.
What if I delete the backup?
When you install it in Installer, there is a warning in the description AND a warning that pops up when you press the install button saying that you should not delete it. If you choose to do so anyway, well, there isn't much that can be done about that...
Well thanks for all of this information and screenshots...but where can I get this tweak/hack?
It is planned to be released on the ModMyI source within the next week or two. If you have Community Sources installed, it should be there on your sources list already. If not, just add http://modmyi.com/installer.xml to your sources list, and you should be set. If anything changes regarding the source, the release date, etc. I will post an update in this thread, but the above informatifdon is quite solid at the time.
What firmware versions will this work with?
This has only been tested on 1.1.1/1.1.2, and I don't know if it will work on 1.0.2. Although I have not been able to test it, it could work on 1.1.3, so if you have your hands on a the leak, try it for yourself and report back your results.
TL;DR
Status: Pulled to correct a bunch of bugs. ETA is unknown but shouldn't be long
Source: http://modmyi.com/installer.xml
What is it: Tweak that greatly extends the functionality of Preferences.app
I've seen this before!: If you skipped the above so that you could read the 'Too Long; Didn't Read' section, I will not bother because the explanation is long and you won't read it
Plan on making any updates: Yes, many.Last edited by King Chronic; 01-15-2008 at 08:25 PM.

Just wondering if this was up on installer? I have previously added the MMI source but for some reason it is missing from installer, so I deleted and added it again and still no MMI showing up with any programs even though it is in the source list. Any thoughts? Also, is this the same one (Preferences Hack) from the IDDonaldson source?

As stated, it won't be out for another week or two, so hang tight. As for the iDDonaldson, see the second paragraph of the section in the OP titled "What is this hack? I think I may have seen it before...". In short, I shared the first version of this hack that I made as a proof of concept that this can be done with some people, and they decided to (in a quite messy manner) put it up on an Installer source as their own, and modifications of that spread around.

Thanks! Your answers were as I thought, but just wanted to clear things up for myself and others. Can't wait for the release. I am continually amazed at the fine job you and all the other programmers are doing out there. You all have made the iphone 100x better than it was OTB and I guarantee Apple has sold more phones becuase of you all! Thanks again!

hey,
why don't you add album shuffle, default wallpaper option, power logging, auto-correction keyboard and brightness count. Maybe my preferences.app which have these options help you. See my attached preferences.app.rar
thanks

01-13-2008, 07:41 AM #13Don't be silly. This isnt code. There's no "IP" in this. Just add the stuff to make the product better for everyone. Sheesh.Do you know who found those options? I don't want to copy of him/her without permission...-BigBoss

It will work for any app but you will have to go into each app's plist and manually add:
<key>SBEnableAppReveal</key>
<true/>
To any app you want to be hidden. Here is the thread that helped me figure out how to do that

Hey guys I have a problem. I had installed an older version and when i updated i accidentally hit yes when the warning popped up without uninstalling the older version. There is no change from the older version and when i try to click uninstall it says "Main Script Execution Failed". I can manually restore to the default settings but I would like to have the new version. If someone could post the Preferences.app file for me so i could manually install it that would be great. Even better if someone could help with the uninstall problem.
