You could make games like roulette and one armed bandits.

haha scratch lottery tickets would be cool with the interface ..

I really like your iBlackJack, mostly because its the only game which is really nice looking.

So.. how about that iCasino app?
Yeah I was thinking about combining them. But I'd probably build iBlackjack into iPoker. Reason is iPoker would be a fresh-start game where I can easily restructure how the game works. iBlackjack was built from the ground up while I was learning this stuff, so now that I look to add features I find myself redoing (read:breaking) whole sections of the game.

Video Poker would be great, IMHO. Sure, I'd like Texas Hold 'Em myself, but Video Poker would be a perfect start. In fact, I think you should develop them individually; then you can have a whole suit of games, as already stated. iCasino is a perfect name for it; roulette, craps, and some sort of slot machine would rond it out perfectly.

Speaking of slot machines, I always loved the "Cherry Master" slots, which is an 8-line slot that uses fruits and symbols. VERY addictive...and I actually won a fair amount of $$$ in real life off it.

While I'm loathe to say it, I have the feeling that once the iPhone SDK is released, you may very well be able to quit your job, and sell these games on iTunes. I mean, heck, I'd pay $1.99 per game, or with the "whole iCasino" suite (iBlackjack, iPoker Video, iPoker Texas Hold 'Em, iSlot Cherry master, and iCraps, perhaps), $10 for the suit. If you get just 100k people (which is only, what, 10% of all iPhones sold?) buying it, you'd be looking at $1,000,000 in profit for the suite of games, or if bought individually for $1.99, nearly $2mil in profit... I'm all for free games, but even I can see the business potential.

Heck, if you go that route, you could offer an "online high score pot" type of reward, where every month you give the high scorers say, 1% of the sales or something, or some sort of "real" cash reward. THAT would drive sales as well...

As far as you mentioning slots, I was (and may still) port/help port Fruitz to the iPhone/iPod Touch. The designer of that game made my main theme and asked if I'd do it, so that may be coming next year as well.

As far as income from the games, you are seeing the possibilities I am. Considering iBlackjack has been downloaded via Community Sources 300k times (200k for alpha 4 alone) getting 100k people to pay a few dollars for a game wouldn't be difficult. It's all up to how easy Apple makes it for us to do, and what their rules are for pricing. If thru iTunes they'll make the majority of the money, but I'll gladly take $1/game. I'll probably still offer a version for modded phones for free, but I have a feeling it'll be two separate versions since the SDK changes will not make the game playable the other way.

Thought I would chime in and say that I've already started looking at a slots type application. Can't promise anything just flushing a few things out currently but that's my current direction...

I would love to see Cherry Master slots, or some other 8-line slots, instead of the standard one-line, 3-squares slot type. The iPhone screen just lends itself to a much larger game...IMHO.

Agreed. However, even $1 from HALF the people who have downloaded the game for free would net you enough to quit your job (for at least a year or two ) and let you concentrate on developing iPhone games full-time. I'm seeing a real business opportunity there...damn, I need to learn how to program for the iPhone!

Here's a teaser image of the icon:

It's not the final icon, I'm going to work on a new card image set for the game (and iBlackjack) and will be using that in the icon instead.

    no limit texas holdem.

Don't waste your time with other poker variants. Video poker is garbage anyway.

My first thought is to make it a "Video Poker" style game at first, to get the rules down. And then as time goes on add other Poker variants like Texas Hold'em, Omaha Hold'em, etc and "fake" players to the game that those variants require.
need a poker timer app. i have one designed if you want to build it?
Someone needs to make a native Poker Timer app.

I've thought about it, I am not a big fan of the web-based one my friends use.

And I'm doing both, in one game. Video/Draw poker is fairly simple and a building block for a Hold'em game.

I've got a basic code/design of iPoker done, based on iBlackjack. I'm trying to wrap up two new features in iBlackjack (chip betting, split logic) done before I really start on iPoker. I don't want to start on iPoker and never finish iBlackjack.

Although it would be insanely hard to do, multiplayer would quite possibly make iPoker the best iPhone game ever made.

Oh, I'm interested in Texas Hold'em. All in!

  19. #39
I'd be very interested in this app I'm glad to hear that dev on iBlackjack is still thriving!
And it will be like a taco inside a taco within a Taco Bell that's inside a KFC that's within a mall that's inside your dream! Springboard screwy after reboot? Here is the fix

A Native "Poker Timer" App would be AWESOME for tourney's!!! No need to lug around my XBOX with the VERY nice "Poker Timer". It displays the actual chip's (Color), the values, Round #, Small & Big Blinds as well as the ante's. You can set each round timer & the blinds, insert breaks, etc..

I know I would pay good money for it. A nice portable Poker Timer that can be taken anywhere & displayed on a big screen!!!

    AWESOME!
