Mail Icon Problem

I had two mail account's setup on mail.app.
I removed one account, now I just have one.
But, ever since i took the one off, my "new mail" icon that shows up on the top right is there even when i have no new mail.
I've noticed that it does go away. But i'm not sure what causes it to. Could be 15 minutes after a reboot of the phone, 1 hour or so at times.
It's been about 1 day now and it hasn't gone away. I opened mail.app, closed it, marked all email as read. I even re-entered the mail account I removed and marked all email as read and then removed it.
Still the same thing.

Any Ideas?

The notice will disappear based on two things, you mark everything as "read", and when it checks for mail and finds nothing there. It's interesting you note 15 minutes and 1 hour, since these are both mail check intervals. Do you have your mail set to check manually or on an interval?

it's on a 15min interval. Manually checking email doesn't take it off.
I did remember something. When i removed the other email account, it had unread mail in it.


i noticed when i downloaded something from installer.app and go back to the home screen, the mail icon went away.

another update:

just to see what would happen, I went into SMBprefs and restarted the springboard, mail icon went away.
