[GUIDE] Fixing Installer.app
The Unofficial Guide to solving your Installer.app problems!
---------------------------------------------
Possible Problems and Their Solutions
---------------------------------------------
Installer freezes when "Refreshing
Sources
Patience is the key to success for this one. I've recently experienced the
problem. At first, it may seem as if Installer froze. Wait a couple of
MINUTES, not seconds, and it will finish refreshing. It may not always take
as long as the first time.
---------------------------------------------
Installer freezes and then restarts to the
springboard. Ends up never loading.
This case occurs rather rarely. One of the contributing problems is that
you installed Installer (alliteration eh?) through JailBreakMe.com. I found
that if you manually install a specific version of Installer through SSH, the
problem is fixed. Note: This solution was tested with
firmware 1.1.1 and worked. Step 1: Download The rar
package of Installer HERE. Unzip it and you should get the folder. Step 2:The
process itself is very easy. You will see 2 folders inside the main folder
named "Applications" and System. Using SSH, unzip the contents of the
application folder (NOT THE FOLDER ITSELF) to the Application directory
onto your iPhone. Same for the System folder, except that you'll see
another folder inside of that. Don't extract it, just upon it up and extract
the file to its relevant location on the iPhone. Congrats! Your Installer.app
should work now and properly receive updates.

Earlier today I tried to install two applications and they said problem with the install process and I was like :/ meh whatever. Then I turned my phone off and on later that day and noticed the icons to those apps that didn't "install" were there but when opened did nothing but sort of freeze me.
Now my installer.app sits in refresh forever I have tried removing it in ssh and doing the unzip method and nothing it just loads and then freezes at the same spot, I have firmware 1.1.1 and I can provide the crash logs if it will help... its really pissing me off haha.

Reflash firmware, but DONT UNLOCK USING JAILBREAKME.COM instead, use ibrickr or iNDependence (Depending whether you have a mac or a pc). Then install Installer.app how i explained above. Resetting frimware to 1.0.2 and then back up to 1.1.1 may help as well.
Using ssh, navigate to the applications folder on you iPhone and delete the .app files of the 2 programs that you "installed", then delete installer.app and restart your iPhone. Then install it again using the steps in the guide.
If it still doesn't work, reflash, downgrade to 1.0.2, and upgrade to 1.1.1.vfdecrypt -i 022-3602-17.dmg -o decrypted.img -k f45de7637a62b200950e550f4144696d7ff3dc5f0b19c8efdf 194c88f3bc2fa808fea3b3

Fix the problem by reseting PackageSources.plist
The Installer.App files appear to be located in /var/root/Library/Installer on the iPhone.
The file PackageSources.plist contains the sources, so....
Create a file PackageSources.plist on your PC with the contents as per attached (note, will need to rename to PackageSources.plist)
Using WinSCP (Windows) and SSH (iPhone)
Go to directory /var/root/Library/Installer
remove (or copy to your Windows PC as a safety measure) the file PackageSources.plist
copy your PackageSources.plist file created above to the iPhone
reboot iPhone
Installer.App should now refresh sources very quickly, but of course only have the default Nullriver sources
Now all that left is to identify the "bad" source repo and rebuild your own PackageSources.plist file.
Good luck !

when refreshing installer sources, after it goes through the checking and refreshing, i get a popup that says
"Refresh Failed
Could not refresh sources!"
running on 1.1.2 on edge. havent tried wifi.
any ideas? I'd hate to have to format and lose all my apps and sources.
edit: working now. must have been the outage they (edge) had earlier in the dayLast edited by nate94gt; 01-31-2008 at 07:58 PM.

I have a problem with the installer which was installed using Ziphone.
I had to delete the Installer 3.1 and install Installer 3.08b using WinSCP, now the problem is that it never update nor install application, I can see that it doesn't connect to the internet.....
is there any known way to solve it..........
