This is the direction Pwnage is heading. You can already do this on a Mac, adding files when Pwnage mounts the ramdisk. Atm, I'm not aware of any other program that does this. Look out though, I'm certain it'll be around soon!

iClone (iCloner - Create iPod backup images in case of iPod problems) claims to be able to do this... Haven't tried it personally, although plan to before firmware 2 upgrade.

if you are jailbroken, you can always do an rsync. i do this about once a week. requires a LITTLE know-how and a shell, but is pretty fast after the first, and i have access to everything if i ever have to redo.

    Wha??

Sorry, but I'm a little slow over here.... You mind indulging us on what a "rsync" is and what you mean by having access to everything??

Anyone looking for a proper backup tool should check out iBares (google it). I've been using it for months now and I like it a lot. Mac only though I think, but I might be wrong.

rsync is a free, opensource incremental backup tool that work sfrom the command line and is included with mac.
    see here: rsync

last night i rsync'd an ipt2g (MC model) that was using 3.1.2 jailbroke with blackra1n rc3 to my computer, then restored with a stock copy of 3.1.2, rejailbroke, installed cydia and rsync and synced everything back to / . everything seemed to be restored perfectly, till i tried to sync to itunes and it wouldn't work, with an 0xE800001 error.

are there any folders which you should not sync back to avoid such a problem with itunes, or do you only restore the folders you need as opposed to the entire filesystem? do you use the --delete option on restore?

So, what's the current status on this? Do we have any good softwares to do a full backup of iPhone?

I guess one can use iFunBox or WinSCP to copy the root directory like someone said, but when you perform a restore this way, would it be safe??? Would love to hear from users who have done this.

anyone can shed some light into this ?
