Mywi and new ATT tethering terms
ATT is now on a bender to get people off of tethering. Has anyone figured out what to do yet. Evidently they can determine whether or not you are tethering and try to swap you over to their 4gb tethering plan. Will mywi come up with a fix for this or is there some other type of work a round?

I don't know if it's because I have an unlimited plan that they haven't contacted me, but I have a custom profile installed from when I used tetherig before mywi.

Just tell them you've never heard of the tethering feature...and the reason you use so much data is because of pandora and netflix.

Has anyone received a letter from ATT that is only on the limited 2 GB plan, or is it just the unlimited people they are looking for? I am currently watching live TV for about 10 hours a day (about 2GB) to rack up some bandwidth usage to see what they will say. I am supposed to have unlimited usage. Maybe they confuse a lot of usage for tethering.

Well I just called them and asked about tethering and it seems from what he told me that AT&T can now actually detect the tethering. I said could it be because I am using too much data from streaming netflix and pandora radio and he told me no that's not the case. He says when you tether the internet, it basically goes through another route and that is how they detect it. Don't quote me for this because I'm not 100% sure that's what he said. It also looks like once AT&T puts you on this tethering plan there is no way to get out of it...this is very stupid. Also he says AT&T is strictly monitoring the accounts that were flagged. But I guess using a big data chunk is ok as long as I am not tethering. If what he told me is true I hope MyWi will be able to come up with a fix for their detection method.

My IT guy found an awesome article about how AT&T is discovering people that are tethering. Ready for their state of the art technique?
---> BANDWIDTH USAGE! <---
They (someone) did a survey of the people who received letters from AT&T and all of them had been above 5GB monthly usage. There was even one guy who had close to 10GB monthly usage because he had no internet access at his house, so he used the phone for EVERYTHING but he was never tethering...yet AT&T assumed he was and sent him a letter. So moral of the story is that AT&T is guessing whether you are tethering or not based on the bandwidth totals.
When I tether, I spend a lot of time on the web (port 80 stuff), so how is AT&T deciphering between my phone hitting up websites or the laptop.
Seeing as our company didn't get a letter (and there are a few of us who tether at a fairly minimal rate), we are not under their microscope because our totals are small. Between phone usage and tethering, I use less than 1GB a month.
Just my $.02

Good post, now if we can see some more like that we will be back in business.

I guess the main question should be is MyWi still going to be a relevant program. I have not heard from anyone from intelliborn on this situation yet. If it is not remedied soon, they will not sell another copy. A statement from them would be nice.

True, MyWi will suffer if there isn't a work around of some sort. Personally, I would still use it on the (gag) AT&T tethering plan. Especially with on demand to my iPad that's too slick to get away from.

My point is that I don't want to use it on the ATT tethering plan because I don't want to pay more to get less. From unlimited @ $30 to 4GB @ $45. What a ripoff. If ATT offered unlimited tethering for $45 I might be interested, but not the way it is now.

I can dig it . . . More scratch for less service has never been a good consumer play.
