Default SMS Sounds Limited to 5 seconds?

I performed a jailbreak on my iPhone specifically to replace the SMS sound files, allowing me to have a longer alert when a text message arrives. I support production systems and rely on SMS messaging from the servers to inform me of issues. I am learning the profile settings in MyProfiles and they seem to be working well except for the SMS sounds. My custom 20 second SMS alert now only plays for the first 5 seconds. Is this limitation imposed by MyProfiles or is there something else happening here? I have created an additional alert which will play the sound again in 30 seconds, but it too only plays for 5 seconds.

I would like to have the control and make sure that the long, and loud, alert will play at night to wake me, and automatically change to a shorter, softer tone during the day.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes they are limited. I don't know the exact time limit but I know that there is one.

@SB. Is the 5.5sec a 3.0 restriction? and wondering if it can be plist modified?

Yep it sucks but it has to be under five and a half seconds. I wish I knew a way around it because I would sure use it.

I can't get anything over 5.5 secs to take. But I only have one tone that I use that is more than that so I never really investigated the issue more.

I have several. I like to use a song phrase, example (Movin On by Chicago) that takes about 35 seconds to play the song phrase. By the time it finishes the call rolls over to voicemail . Used to do this with older/short ringtones (like it would play 5 times before going to VM )

Uggg. Yet another reason to stay put (but the 3.0 draw is growing )
