Aren't they both part of LIME now? I believe the APN is just 'internet' (no quotes) with no username or password.

It uses data but any GSM SIM is a data SIM - I'm not quite sure what you mean?

I have no idea in Trinidad - it's certainly not the case here in the UK

I am actually in Trinidad and the answer is yes a data sim is necessary.
For tstt bmobile the apn in indeed 'internet' and the apn for digicel is 'web.digiceltt.com' no username or password in both cases. A pre paid blackberry plan would give you data that would work on the iphone, so post paid in not absolutely necessary.

Blackberry plan carries data. It also carries information specific for bb services such as bb messenger. However it is the only data available for pre paid in Trinidad. It WILL work on the iphone, i use it all the time. It may not be cost effective since you'll be paying for bb services that will not work on the iphone. It makes sense only if its short term since the bb pre paid can be done weekly.
