Thought I'd join in and hopefully shed some light on where we're at with Element. I'm not here to pitch you that it'll be better than any of the competitors, just gonna lay down what I know and what I don't know.
Jay Freeman is building it out and he's been traveling so I imagine he's had to take some time away from its development. He did mention he had a working version and was pleased with the speed and overall polish of the app. We've never worked with Jay before so I'm not entirely sure when we can expect to see something. I keep saying "hopefully soon", but he's a busy guy. While I'm sure we could have gotten it out quicker, I'm just as happy to wait to have Jay build it since he's behind the actual framework it runs on. I have a feeling as he's been working on the app he's been tweaking the framework to make it better (faster & more stable).
Once we use an actual working version I'll be able to share more about its actual capabilities and do my best to give an unbiased report of how stable, fast and useful it is. We'll also put together a site for it that'll have some more info, but we really need to use it before we talk too much more about it.
Price: Ideally, and this is subject to change, there's a free beta so we can get some people telling us what needs fixing. From there I'd love a free trial period with a pay version. Assuming it's great and is representative of what you've seen what would you pay? Other apps like this seem to run $5-$10, but I'm only just becoming aware of what else is out there so I'd love some feedback and suggestions about price or anything.
If it has a to do list or notes widget that can be linked to the to do app that I use (and not have to shell out 10 bucks for Appigo like in LockInfo), I would pay $4-5 for it.
I would be happy paying up to $5 but i would pay no more than probably $8. It just really depends how well it functions.. Ill have to wait to see it in action
Both Smartscreen and QuickWidgets fall short for me. LockInfo is improving, waiting on Element. So for now, Intelliscreen is still at the top of my heap, for me.
Anyone else think this looks slightly HTCish? Not in a bad way, because I think this looks great! Just it looks like the HTC homescreen on their WM phones somewhat. Looks great though and really easy to use. Customizable I'm hoping. Can't wait to try it out!
