Ultrasn0w updated to Fix Carrier Logo
Ultrasn0w update
Quote from the dev team
Today we released an ultrasn0w update that fixes an issue for those running firmware 3.1.2 with the 04.26 baseband. That specific combination resulted in a missing carrier name in the upper left-hand corner of your home screen. Today’s ultrasn0w update from 0.91 to 0.92 fixes that problem (which was an important issue for roaming). You should see the update available if you have ultrasn0w.com as a Cydia source. Enjoy!Last edited by mixi92; 11-09-2009 at 03:14 PM.

I can't move up to 3.1.2 without 5.11.07 due to the fact that I can't get a true carrier icon without it. Where I work there is a roaming network that is not covered by AT&T and it will not tell me if I am on that network without 5.11.07. This is the whole reason I have been on 3.0.1 this whole time.

Yeah this fix is for the "true carrier icon"

It's not a cosmetic thing.. it's a real fix. An update to the real ultrasn0w...I always feel sorry for the guy in the iPhone commercials. He always gets a call right in the middle of trying to do something

So what would I do? Just run this on my phone even though I am with AT&T? I really would like to try 3.1.2

Find a Mac and use Pwnage to upgrade to 3.12 while preserving your BB and use UltraSn0w 0.92

Will do. I am looking into buying a Mac, but have to work out some things as far as dual booting Windows, etc.

My AT&T 3G is on pwn'd 3.1.2 with baseband 4.26.08. And ultrasn0w .91 was loaded (for future sale). I had no carrier logo and no makeitmine or other fake carrier options were installed.
I installed ultrasn0w .92, but the only thing that it fixed was the network id under Settings->General->About->Network, which now shows AT&T...still no carrier logo. Did I miss something?

I would recommend trying a few things.
- Try Re-installing Ultrasn0w 0.92 in Cydia and reboot when it is finished.
If your carrier name still doesn't appear, try: - Go to Settings -> General -> Reset and select Reset Network Settings and reboot.
If your carrier name still doesn't appear, try: - Reset your APN settings by:
Go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data network and select Reset Settings. Re-enter your APN settings and reboot.

Tried to reinstall Ultrasn0w .92 which didn't work. Tried uninstalling and then installing again for good measure...no change.
Reset my network settings and rebooted...no carrier logo.
Now maybe this is my issue?? I don't have the Cellular Data Network option under Settings->General->Network. I think it's due to the fact that I'm running with carrier bundle 5.6?? Is this also my problem?
No, you can't fix stupid, but millions of dollars a day are spent trying
Downloaded and re-applied the v5.6 ipcc file and rebooted. I still have no Cellular Data Network option and, of course, no carrier logo.

Wait, something doesn't make sense. Is your cell carrier AT&T? If it is, you should be activating through iTunes and not installing Ultrasn0w to unlock. If Ultrasnow is installed, I would recommend uninstalling it, reboot, perform a reset network settings and reboot.
I believe AT&T has locked down the Cellular Data Network so you can not edit the APN settings. If removing Ultrasn0w & resetting your Network Settings doesn't work, you will need to restore a clean firmware, activate using iTunes and install your carrier update by clicking the "Update" button in iTunes. It should inform you, that you have a carrier update to install.
I think Ultrasn0w screwed things up because it should not have been installed in your situation. This is because you have an official carrier (AT&T) and activate through iTunes.Last edited by reddawg; 11-13-2009 at 06:52 PM.

reddawg, I only recently loaded Ultrasn0w since I'm intending on selling the iPhone and wanted to be sure I could claim it was "unlocked". Prior to installing it, I still never saw the Cellular Data Network option. But, as you say, I really don't need it, so I'll uninstall and reset network settings and report back.
Of course, I may get the Cellular Data Network option, but without Ultrasn0w, how will my carrier logo get fixed? Or does the install of Ultrasn0w patch the firmware and an uninstall leaves the patch?
Followup:
As I expected, after Ultrasn0w uninstall and network settings reset, no change. Still no Cellular Data Network and no carrier logo.
Followup:
Found the trick to enable the option for Cellular Data Network. I edited the carrier.plist file and added the AllowEDGEEditing key.Last edited by jcarroll; 11-13-2009 at 09:42 PM.

This isn't going help. I didn't understand at first what jcarrol wanted, but he is looking to sell his iPhone 3G as JB & unlocked using a custom 3.1.2 firmware created by PwnageTool. Unlocked mean for non-official carriers.

2) With a non official carrier like T-Mobile USA, you restore a custom firmware that is already hacktivated, and install Ultrasn0w to unlock for unofficial carriers. DO NOT install any official AT&T carrier updates (NO ATT_US.ipcc) because they do not apply to the situation. Ultrasn0w 0.92 fixes the problem where carrier logos were not being displayed.
jcarroll you will need to create a custom 3.1.2 firmware using PwnageTool or download one from the internet that is activated (hacktivated) and install Ultrasn0w 0.92 in Cydia. This is an unlocked iPhone 3G. If you want to test it, you will need a T-Mobile SIM or an unofficial carrier SIM.
For example:
AT&T (official carriers) - NOT Hacktivated
iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore_WO_Activation. ipsw
T-Mobile (non-official carriers) - Hacktivated
iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore_W_Activation.i psw
I'm not allowed to post actual links to custom firmwares, you will need to Google for them.
FYI: If you end up selling your iPhone 3G to someone that has AT&T, just have them restore a stock 3.1.2 firmware from Apple. They can always jailbreak with Blackra1n and if they want to unlock and switch to another carrier they can use Blacksn0w to unlock baseband 05.11.07.

battlecrushr, I got my carrier logo working by installing Carrier Logo Fixer from Cydia. Is this a true fix or another variety of fakers to make us feel better? If I roam onto another network, does the carrier logo/text change to inform me??
Thanks reddawg, I understand what you're saying. I'm running an AT&T non-hactivated custom firmware now, so loading ultrasn0w really did nothing. I wasn't thinking.
My plan was to eBay the phone as jailbroken and unlocked at the latest firmware to maximize sale value. Once sold, if the seller wanted me to, I would restore with the appropriate firmware for their carrier and present them with a clean jailbroken/unlocked phone.Last edited by jcarroll; 11-14-2009 at 11:55 AM. I thought so...I agree, it's nice to have the old custom logo back, but important to know if you go roaming the logo won't change.
Yeah man, check my banner info...phone is at 3.1.2 & bb 4.26. No worries, ultrasn0w isn't meant for my AT&T custom firmware anyway.Last edited by jcarroll; 11-14-2009 at 12:06 PM.
