Motorola/Verizon Droid Revealed. Beats iPhone in Specs

This time it wasn’t the blogshinobi who leaked more details on Verizon’s upcoming Motorola Droid “iPhone Killer”, but good old Moto itself, according to Android Central:
Motorola just went live with the official Droid webpage and it went into beautifully excruciating detail about this most anticipated device. The early publishing of the website is no longer available but Motorola’s mistake is our gain, now we don’t have to wait til October 28th to get the nitty gritty specs.
And those specs are a fairly impressive:

Android 2.0 ‘Eclair’
3.7-inch WVGA (480×854), 16:9 touchscreen
550 MHz processor
6 oz (169g)
2.4 x 4.6 x.5 inches (60×115.80×13.70mm)
3.5mm headphone jack (yes, HTC has now made this a feature for Android)
Broswer will support Flash 10 in 2010
Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, microUSB (comes with 16gb microSDHC card)
1400 mAh battery (rated at nearly 6 and a half hours of usage time)
5 megapixel camera with image stabilization, 4x zoom, dual-led Flash, and auto-focus
the color is listed as: ‘Licorice w/ brown sugar accents’
So Android is now taking a page from Windows Mobile and really pushing the hardware. Is this finally enough to force Apple into raising its own spec game? (TiPb did ask for an iPhone HD last year already). And if so, will next June be soon enough to keep the new generation of competitors at bay?
Or were Tim Cook and Fake Steve (twice) right, that usability and unified platform are the killer iPhone advantages, and on those terms, Apple is still way ahead of the competition?
If the latter, should Windows Mobile (which uses the same split software model and hardware partners), and BlackBerry (which used to have Verizon’s spotlight) be worried?

I use random spanish phrases all the time in my normal vocab.
Like my spanish is starting to take over my mandarin too.

I was helping my friend with her mandarin homework and I was mixing up some of my words with Spanish and she was just all like, "uhh.. angie... that's spanish"

Well I for one hope it takes off like a rocket

I really want to see another company come up with something that will force Apple to really move on some of the things that the iPhone should already have...like a better camera, a flash for said camera, flash support, etc.

I mean it is really pathetic when the iphone community sings hallelujah, and acts like the gates of heaven have opened up when we get a feature that has been available on even the crappiest and cheapest of phones for over a decade.

I know that the iphone has all kinds of cool features right now, and it's far better than anything else out there, but I think it will take a real competitor to get Apple to bring these types of features to us sooner rather than later.

I have to add though, that for such a feature packed phone, they need to fire the guy that designed the look and colors.

"Me gusta tambien, hay que esperar". NOW the the official spec's are out, has the potential for impressive. I remember when Apple intruduced the PPC processor it throttled the speed until the market demanded it. BASTARDS! Having said that, if the follow the model, the iPhone will be upgraded with power beyond 3GS and "whatever" they are playing with at Cupertino.

That looks cool....but the specs arent really beyond the iphone. Yeah the camera is 5mp and the screen is a bit bigger....

But the processor is slower than the 3GS and I doubt it has as much RAM, plus no built in storage (yeah its nice to be able to stick a card in it - doesnt matter to me though). And you cant beat an iphone for pure build quality (feel in hand).

But Apple needs someone to push them to do more/better

I had a PDA 5 years ago with better specs than the iPhone, but it ran on Windblows Mobile so how much use do you think it was to me?

Until this phone is running OS X, it doesn't matter what it has on it. There is no operating system like OS X. Everything else out there is Windows based, or Windows minded.... and that.......

Android is not a bad OS - but this phone does nothing for me. I had been waiting for a phone with a usable touch-screen and no keyboard for years.
The iPhone 3G is pretty much the perfect form for me.
The 3GS is better but not worth me upgrading. My next phone is likely to be the next gen iPhone if this is all the competition can come up with.
But that's no bad thing.

my iphone 3gs does everything i need it to. so unless they make a android phone that really blows it away which this one doesnt seem to i wont be switching. i love windows 7 on my computer but after using a 8525 for about a month before getting a iphone i just dont see myself ever using a windows mobile phone again.
