The Dev Team warned people not to use BlackRa1n IF THEY WANTED TO UNLOCK. If you are certain you don't want to unlock ever then upgrade to 3.12 and use BlackRa1n.
If there is the remotest possibility you might want to unlock then either find a Mac or someone with a Mac and get them to make a custom FW for you and restore it in Windows.
Either keep on trying, read all the advice in the BlackRa1n thread or just use pwnage.

As Geo himself says, with a 3G you just need to keep trying. Took him 6 attempts to JB a friends 3G but it does work eventually.
Or just use pwnage. He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

It seems that everyone is having problems with the windows software while trying to jailbreak their iPhone. I am having trouble with my Mac software while trying to jailbreak. My brother (who said it was the easiest thing he's done) can't seem to figure out why this isn't working for my brand new 3G S. Maybe the software versions aren't compatible? I don't know how to check that. Anyway every time I try to jailbreak this is what happens.
1. I connect my phone to iTunes.
2. I bring up and click the "Make it Ra1n" button.
3. iTunes says something about my phone being in recovery mode
4. The icon where the USB cable is pointing towards my iTunes icon comes up on the screen and won't go away.
5. The picture of Geohot comes up momentarily on my iPhone screen, but then goes away and the screen goes back to the USB and iTunes icon.
From there, NOTHING works anymore. I unplug the phone, but its frozen on that icon. I turn the phone off and then on again and it goes back to that icon and is frozen in that state. The only way I can get it to work again is to restore it, and that's a pain. I've tried this four times now and it never works.
Again, I have a MAC, not a PC. But it seems that I am having the same problem as everyone else....

Have you rebooted? Do you have a 3GS?

I was having the same problem but finally figured out what was going on. I was plugging my iphone into a USB hub and could never get past the recovery screen no matter what. However once I plugged it directly into a port on the front of PC the world became a beautiful place once more! Hope this helps someone!
