Just got this message when I launched iTunes. I would recommend avoiding the update until more is known about it.

Does the Dev-Team post any info on new versions of iTunes to modmyi when they get a chance to check them out? I'll take their word on it for sure.

FWIW, I updated to iTunes 8.2.1 and then jailbroke my 3GS with Purplera1n RC2a with no issues at all.

I haven't seen anyone experiencing problems with the new upgrade but as a fairly new JB'er, I have some concerns.

I thought (from my reading) that we were suppose to always wait for official word from the dev team before upgrading any version of iTunes or OS/firmware on the phone itself.

Does it bother anyone else that the dev team has been deafly silent on this issue? Is this unusual or is this the norm? Are we suppose to assume that after x weeks of essentially no official word that it's just OK? Seems like a weird way to do business for a team that, for the most part, seems fairly well organized and thorough, especially for what it is.

I'd like to wait for official word but I'm getting restless and it seems I ought to upgrade my iTunes since it incessantly reminds me but I have a 3G-S (now) and have read horror stories about jumping the gun and shooting yourself in the foot since they actually can (apparently) lock the 3G S completely, basically at will. I understand this likely takes a firmware upgrade but I also understand the incestual relationship between OS/firmware upgrades and iTunes.

It's obvious from the posts above what some of you are doing but what about the rest of you? Are any of you gunshy/cautious ike me? Will we ever see an official word on this?
