    Default I can haz emoji?

Update: Available in cydia from iSpazio.

    PLIST IS HERE: http://localhostr.com/files/cd6a49/c...nces.plist.zip

As an addendum to my last post, I decided to figure out how to enable Emoji systemwide. My findings were first posted on Twitter, but I'm putting them here for persistence.

You need to replace the file
    /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preferences.plist
on the device -> whether you use a jailbreak to achieve this or merely some iTunes backup editor is up to you.

Add the following boolean key as 'true':

    KeyboardEmojiEverywhere

Then merely go to the Keyboards section of the Settings app, hit Japanese, and turn on Emoji. Will work for any text field/view in the OS, including on websites, AND including the titles of items on SpringBoard (e.g. if you save a bookmark to the home screen).

    Have fun!

Update: You can activate Emoji directly from the Installer, adding the following source: and installing the package under the name: "Emoji everywhere"

it all boils down to 1 command for me (I have ssh & erica's utilities )
    Code:
    plutil -1 KeyboardEmojiEverywhere /User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preferences.plist
then turn it on in settings!

So if you are in America (or not Japan) and texted a non-iPhone person with an emoji in it will they see it or some kind of key stroke equivalent like ": )" or something

This is on iSpazio in cydia, but I have heard it didn't work. I'll try to put it on mmi's repo, but I (like iSpazio) am unsure about how to make the file replace that file when you download it.

i did it through ispazio via cydia...the first attempt didn't take, so i tried it again. second time, it restarted springboard instead of back to cydia. went to keyboard, japanese, clicked on emoji. went to sms, the little world icon thing pops up next to the space bar, and when you press it, it displays all the different emoji..those crazy japanese

I don't think emoji works from ATT to Tmobile or vice versa. I have ATT and I've tried numerous failed attempts to send one to my friend with an iPhone 2G 2.2 on Tmobile. I haven't been able to receive one from him either. I've been able to successfully send it to my sister on an iPhone 2G on ATT. Can someone else test this?

    Default iTunes backup editor?

I have seen the post regarding enabling emoji on several sites, and each time it references the possible use of a "iTunes backup editor." I've jailbroken my phone plenty of times, but recently I'm running totally legit. If there is a backup editor that would allow me to alter that one plist, so I can enable emoji wthout jailbreaking, I'd be ecstatic.

    EDIT:
After much tinkering, searching the web, and scouring forums, I've come to the conclusion that you can no longer edit iTunes backup files.

So what I opted to do, and has worked fine (albeit a really cumbersome process), was Quickpwn my phone, then change the one plist. Once I verified I had emoji, then I backed up to iTunes, then forced my phone back into DFU mode, and restored to a normal non-jailbroken state. Then with a simple iTunes restore, the edited plist persisted, and I have a fully legit phone with emoji.
