Playing movies from my macbook to my tv? Not working...

Ok, so I bought this: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PVUIL4/ref=oss_product]Amazon.com: Mini DVI Male to HDMI Female Video Adapter Cable: Electronics[/ame] but it doesn't do anything. What am I doing wrong, what do I need? I have a ton of movies put on my macbook that I burned form netflix and sent back, but now there stuck on the mac, lol. Thanks in advance!
