bootcamp virus protection?

i know this is a dumb question. i searched and couldnt find anything related.

i installed windows 7 on my macbookpro for shits and giggles yesterday and am wondering, if i actually think of something to do with it, do i need to then install virus protection? is the apple ability to remain invulnerable to viruses within the hardware setup or the OS? Have i potentially exposed my baby to harm just by installing windows?

Well in case you haven't found an answer by now, you do need some sort of virus protection. It's a software thing, not hardware. I just installed windows 7 on my mac and I'm using Norton

I would disagree. Even if a virus happens to get in through the Windows side, it still can't do any damage to the actual system (assuming you keep all your vital stuff on the Mac side). The windows partition sits in a bubble atop the Unix core that makes Macs different then PC's, the virus would have to be written in/recognize Unix code to be able to do any real damage.
So if anything does happen on the windows side, no big deal; go back to the mac side and take out the partition, start over. But I have been running Windows XP, VIsta, and now 7 for the last 4 years with no problems.

A Mac might not feel the Windows virus, but it will still spread it to other Windows users. so YES always run anti virus on your windows partition (unless you are that one real hacker who really knows everything).

I put Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro today and had the exact same question. But came to the conclusion it wasn't worth having on my Mac so I deleted it. But I came to the same conclusion that yes I would need an antivirus program

I use Avast. It is super light weight and does a heck of a job.

I use AVG and Malawarebytes. You can also scan your Bootcamp from Mac OS X with VirusBarrier X6.

Malwarebytes is a nice app. I have used it on some friends computers to fix their pron addiction blunders

The answer is in the eye of the beholder e.g. If you go to random websites regularly then maybe but if you go to websites like YouTube then you will be fine

I use comodo on my bootcamp install and on my osx install and it works great.

I use Norton's on my bootcamp because Comcast gives it for free to customers.

Hardly boot into bootcamp anymore since Steam came to OSX.
