Thread: Handbrake issues

    Default Handbrake issues
So I have had HB for over 2 years now and never had an issue with it. Last week macbook crashed and I replaced it a few days ago and BAM! no HB. I downloaded a new one and nothing. Won't do anything. Says I need a VLC or something, I NEVER had to have one before. Is it a new version of HB that I have? I want it to be like it was before, just faster haha.

    No one has any suggestions?!?

Newer versions of Handbrake require VLC to do DVD decrypting. So just put VLC in the applications folder and your ready to go. It should work fine without it though if you dont need to DeCSS your media.

Ok, so I downloaded the VLC, the one with the street cone for the icon, opened it, and placed it rather gingerly in my apps. folder. I open handbrake and..... nothing. It "scans" the disc for about 10 minutes and after getting nowhere I say "screw it" and restart my mac. Now what? Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to be opening the cone? What's up?

after 25 minutes of waiting it stops and says "no valid source found" WTF?!?!?!?

What version of VLC do you have. Also when you got the new macbook did you use the migration tool? Or manually install everything.

    I'm using 1.0.2 64bit.

How about we try removing all handrake setting.

Go to your user folder> then library> then application support> then delete handbrake. Save copy somewhere just incase. Then also go back to the library folder and go into preference and it should be named org.m0k.handbrake.plist or something along those lines. Remove that and lets see about that. If that doesnt work we can try the same thing with VLC too. After you remove these items open VLC and close and then open Handbrake.

    LEt me know.

Make sure they are both either 32 or 64 bit. Otherwise it won't work.

Yeah. Use trashme to delete all the associated file. It's a free download.

Have you checked permissions since you migrated?

No I have not, how exactly do I do that?

  26. #19
Go to disk utility and click on your main disk on the left. Then hit matinece and repair disk permissions on the bottom right.

I got trashme, but both VLC and HB have protection and I can't seem to get them free of it.
