Couldn't live without my Quick Silver. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it to everyone. I set my shortcut to launch it as Apple Key + Y. Basically it is your quick portal to anything on your computer. If I want to open an application I press Apple Key - Y, then begin typing the Application name. After about 3 letters the program I"m looking to open pops up and I press enter to open it! That simple! This eliminates having to go to finder > Applications > then searching a minute to find the application.

Everyone I have set this up for couldn't live without it either, even non-geeky people Check it out and let me know how it goes!

Um what about the already built-in "Spotlight".
Sounds like the same thing but better than what you're talking about. All you have to do is go to the upper corner and type anything and what ever is on your computer containing it pops up, not just apps.

damn thats what i was gonna say.

I hear people love Quicksilver but i think spotlight is a lot nicer and probably faster, and its built in, so theres no install or more space that gets taken up.

If it made me coffee in the morning then im sure id download it

quicksilver works faster, plus it's not limited to just opening things. You can add details of what you'd like each application to do, etc. Eg. You could take a file, set it to 'compress using', and then choose an application that zips the file; all through your keyboard.

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

Spotlight and Quicksilver do not perform the same functions. Spotlight is a search engine, Quicksilver is a launcher.

I think some "unable to do without" apps would be SnapzPro, VisualHub, MacRenamer, MacPilot. And for those on the more creative side, Photoshop and FinalCut Studio.

Considering search in Vista came out 2 years after Spotlight, you've got that backwards.
