According to Digitimes, supply-chain rumors support KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s prediction of an all new 12-inch MacBook Air model to be launched in Q3.

Apple’s new 12-inch MacBook Air will enter mass production in the third quarter, filling the gap between the 11- and 13-inch MacBook Airs as well as enhancing Apple’s leadership in the small-to-medium-size ultra-thin notebook market, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.
However, Digitimes is not always the most reliable source and they claim that Apple’s motivation is to differentiate it from the 10-inch iPad Air, which doesn’t make much sense. Kuo suggested that the new MacBook Air will sport the same external size as the 11-inch MacBook Air as well have retina display. It was also suggested that the new device might not have a mechanical trackpad button or a fan. But we’ll just have to wait until Apple makes their official announcement to know what the 12-inch MacBook Air will look like or if there will even be one.
