Default Apple Intervening and Removing Fraudulent Reviews from the App Store

Developers who try and fake the App Store rating system by paying for fraudulent reviews, now have to deal with Apple. The company has begun a campaign striking against fake entries made in the App Store, in efforts to make it fair for everyone. Apple has been intervening for some time now on a case-by-case basis, however, it is unclear as to when the company started the push. TechCrunch was the first to find and report the move by Apple.

Daneco Ltd., makers of “spammy” app Better Fonts Free, was the most recent developer to have dealt with Apple. It was apparent that the app had more than 15,000 fake reviews just over night. Many times, fake reviewers are careless and take very little effort to cover their tracks. According to the publication, Apple often intervenes when they find such issues.

Buying reviews has become more and more common as developers try to find quick ways to get their apps to the top of the App Store. Many times, fake reviewers flood the App Store with thousands of 5-star reviews in a very short amount of time. It has been noted that such a position can be worth thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars in earnings every day.

How do they find out if the review is fraudulent?
