Chitika: Adoption of OS X Mavericks Nearing 40% of North American Web Traffic
About five months after its official release on the Mac App Store, OS X Mavericks is already running on about 40% of North American Macs, according to Chitika. These numbers were recorded between March 17 and March 23, 2014. That's an impressive number considering that OS X Mavericks is a complete operating system upgrade and not just a minor update.
Following OS X Mavericks, OS X Mountain Lion holds 21% of the Mac OS X usage, OS X Lion holds about 18%, and OS X Snow Leopard also holds about 18%.
OS X Mavericks was a free upgrade for OS X Snow Leopard, OS X Lion, and OS X Mountain Lion users, which was part of the reasoning behind the quicker adoption. Apple has a track history of charging for operating system upgrades, and the free upgrade made it more available to many Mac users.
OS X Mavericks added over 200 new features to OS X, including popular features like App Nap, Compressed Memory, Finder Tabs, Safari Notifications, iBooks, Maps, improvements to several other applications, improvements to performance, improvements to battery life, and more.
