How about this: in trade school, I had to pay my own way through student loans. A mid-eastern buddy in the same school worked at a European car shop (making twice what I made), drove a BMW M3, lived with his parents, and got a free ride (tuition). Maybe it's not pure discrimination, but it sure cost me a lot more than him!

Btw, how many corporate surveys have you been part of? You say, "Many black working in these companies are well over qualified but looked down upon because of their color," but how many exactly, and how do you know? Or is it because that's convenient to "prove" your point? Simple advice people: work hard, take risks, get an education, and try, try again! If one company doesn't want you, you probably don't want them!
Alright for one in the Rap culture we embrace hip hop so if Eminem Mackelmore are hip hop then we have embraced them. You talk about school which was a personal factor for you. But for one thing yes if your not black you won't understand our discrimination. You can read about it (Jim Crow Laws) in plain English. I've worked for so called corporate America and it's the same BS in everyone, We as blacks get eyes balled for everything. "John can come to work late everyday boss won't tell him anything but let Theo arrive to work late twice in one week it's a problem. It's also in our history y'all will always be scared of us. The only real point you made is that if they don't want you then you probably don't want them. But try being denied several times and see what your reaction will be!!!. And don't tell me keep trying... [Our only real problem as blacks is that we don't stick together] and I'm done!!!!!

As for minorities in tech companies, they have the same opportunities as anyone else to work hard, study, and choose technical careers if they want. You might want to look at why they don't do those things instead of working so hard to carry that chip on your shoulder around.
Question if you keep getting a doors slammed in your face will you keep opening them or try something totally different since the door thing is not working? And yes calling the President Mr. Obama instead of his title President Obama or is lack of respect... Bush was the dumbest president we've had but they still called him president bush!!!!!

If you want to better yourself, you find the means to do it! Success isn't going to be handed to you and isn't going to conform to 'your' ideas. Being Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, etc, etc is NO excuse for not getting a job. You didn't have the qualities the company was looking for...plain and simple.

There are PLENTY of examples where non-whites have high-ranking positions and they didn't get them because of their skin color, they got it because of their qualifications! Accept it and move on...

If you want these type of jobs, you must act accordingly and talk accordingly. It's not discrimination when you refuse to adapt to your surroundings. That's just common sense!

They're making assumptions. Assumptions aren't a good thing.
    Great minds discuss ideas.
    Average minds discuss events.
    Small minds discuss people.

Rondo, I feel bad that you can't get ahead. But how we know your race is the only reason? It always seems like those who blame race for everything do not acknowledge racism can go both ways. Where I've worked the last 14 years I have seen only one white male be promoted. If you are a minority you go to the front of the line.

I'm always curious why those who play the race card, such as JJ and our Prez (you need to read the previous link about "Mr"), make it out to be a white vs black issue. You don't hear them asking for more jobs for Asians or Indians because that is not their voting base. I guess technically they want to take jobs away from these two to GIVE to others.

Leave it to a racist a-hole like Jackson to say something ignorant and irrelevant.

Considering Apple's CEO is gay, I don't think Jesse has a pot to piss in...

Furthermore, Anderson Cooper ought to pull him on his show and give him the what's for. Or better yet, let him talk this **** on The Daily Show, and watch John Stewart show him up for the fool that he is.

If you give it a little thought, with all the incentives and special programs available for racial minorities and women, the caucasian male is now the true "minority" who should be getting affirmative action. When I graduated High School, my guidance counsellor -- herself an African American woman -- told me to check "black, Hispanic, woman" on my college applications and I'd "get everything (I) wanted." Granted, that was over 40 years ago, but these days, I'd hazard to guess it's just a matter of checking "Affrican American, Hispanic," and "Female" on an application for that to apply -- especially when it comes to getting a job.

Written by DEMOCRAT Richard Lamm: I have a plan to destroy America by Richard D. Lamm I have a secret plan to destroy America. If you believe, as many do, that America is too smug, too white bread, too self-satisfied, too rich, let’s destroy America. It is not that hard to do. History shows that nations are more fragile than their citizens think. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and they all fall, and that “an autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.” Here is my plan: 1. We must first make America a bilingual-bicultural country. History shows, in my opinion, that no nation can survive the tension, conflict and antagonism of two competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. One scholar, Seymour Martin Lipset, put it this way: “The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with its Basques, Bretons and Corsicans.” 2. I would then invent “multiculturalism” and encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal: that there are no cultural differences that are important. I would declare it an article of faith that the black and Hispanic dropout rate is only due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out-of-bounds. 3. We can make the United States a “Hispanic Quebec” without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently, “The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved, not by tolerance, but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically, and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.” I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with a salad bowl metaphor. It is important to insure that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America reinforcing their differences, rather than Americans emphasizing their similarities. 4. Having done all this, I would make our fastest-growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50 percent dropout rate from school. 5. I would then get the big foundations and big business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of victimology. I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was all the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population. 6. I would establish dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would “celebrate diversity.” “Diversity” is a wonderfully seductive word. It stresses differences rather than commonalities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other–that is, when they are not killing each other. A “diverse,” peaceful or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together, and we can take advantage of this myopia. Look at the ancient Greeks. Dorf’s “World History” tells us: “The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshiped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic Games in honor of Zeus, and all Greeks venerated the shrine of Apollo at Delphi. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet, all of these bonds together were not strong enough to overcome two factors … (local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions …)” If we can put the emphasis on the “pluribus,” instead of the “unum,” we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo. 7. Then I would place all these subjects off-limits–make it taboo to talk about. I would find a word similar to “heretic” in the 16th century that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like “racist”, “xenophobe” halt argument and conversation. Having made America a bilingual-bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of “victimology,” I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra –”because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good.” I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact. 8. Lastly, I would censor Victor Davis Hanson’s book “Mexifornia” –this book is dangerous; it exposes my plan to destroy America.
