Default Apple's Fastest Growing Hardware Product is....

Last year, one of Apple's hardware products grew faster than any other. Care to guess which it was? If you think it's in the iDevice family, you'd be wrong. A Mac, perhaps? Nope.

According to Horace Dediu, a well-known analyst and market watcher with Asymco, the Apple TV was Apple's fastest growing hardware product of 2013, raking in an estimated $1 billion in revenue from device sales last year alone.

"Apple TV is the fastest growing hardware product in Apple's line-up. My estimate is 80% y/y," Dediu tweeted Friday.

When you consider that Apple reportedly sold ten million units of the Apple TV last year despite the fact that the hardware hasn't been updated since early 2012, it's pretty impressive. Nonetheless, the long-awaited hardware update may finally be upon us, with a growing number of analysts expecting an April release.

As MMi reported Friday morning, for one week Apple is offering the Apple TV at Apple Stores and through its online store for $99 with a $25 iTunes gift card. It's a clear indication, some say, that Apple is clearing out inventory before the refreshed device arrives within the next eight weeks.

a lot. but this would destroy their business model as content providers will not deal with apple if they don't do everything in their power to stop jailbreaks on the apple tv, which allow users unlicensed access to their paid content
