Apple Claims Another Legal Victory in Motorola Patent Case
On Friday, Apple was able to claim victory once again in the courtroom as The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled to uphold a previous ruling by the International Trade Commission.
The ITC has determined that Apple did not infringe on a Motorola patent. As covered extensively throughout 2013, Motorola asserted that Apple was in violation of patent-protected technology related to embedded proximity sensors in mobile phones.
Motorola has been fighting Apple on this matter since mid-2012. But, alas, the battle finally appears to have been futile as the Court of Appeals seems to have thoroughly poked holes through Motorola’s persistent infringement theory.
"Motorola failed to establish the technical prong of the domestic industry requirement," Federal Judge Jimmie V. Reyna ruled Friday. "Because these conclusions of the Commission were supported by substantial evidence, we affirm."
