Default Spotify Update Brings a Slick New Design for its Desktop App

In an effort to keep up with its rivals in the online music service space, Spotify is rolling out an update which enhances the user interface design in its desktop applications. The move is likely just another step to stay competitive with other services such as Rdio. The new desktop app updates for both Mac and Windows now include a darker user interface and a revised take on musician artwork which is now cropped as circles.

The changes seem to be largely cosmetic with no new features added in this update. When asked for more details about the update, a Spotify spokesperson mentioned the company had nothing to share at this point, which helped confirm the lack of features in this update.

Aside from updated versions of the Mac and Windows client, Spotify also rolled out a tweaked version of its Android app.
Did any of you Spotify users download the update? If so, what are your thoughts on the cosmetic changes?
