Default Apple Modifies App Store Search Engine

In recent weeks, Apple is believed to have updated its App Store search engine to improve the overall user experience as well as reduce one of the most common pitfalls of the app search process - confusion born of misspelled queries.

Apple is conquering the search process one small typo at a time, TechCrunch reported Tuesday.

Searchers looking for an app they know by name, but are unsure if it has spaces in the title, are also seeing better results. For example, those looking for the highly ranked “QuizUp” game wouldn't have found it before if they had typed in “Quiz Up” with a space. Now it appears.
The folks at Fiksu are among those to confirm the algorithm changes at work inside of the App Store. By all accounts, the changes are being widely viewed as a positive update. “That's great news for app publishers and yet another step in Apple's efforts to improve app discoverability,” explains Craig Palli, Chief Strategy Officer at Fiksu.

The latest update is also seen as a positive response to the Google Play store's well-established prowess at warding off app search confusion resulting from misspelled words.
