Here's an interesting fact about Denmark. For a nation of fewer than 6 million people, Denmark produces roughly half of all the hearing aids in the world.

With technology increasingly important to the nation, it's no surprise that Apple's iPhone is now on the radar of leading hearing aid manufacturers.

Reuters reported Monday that GN Store Nord has collaborated with Apple "to develop a device [LiNX hearing aid] packed with bluetooth-like technology that installed in the ear allows users to stream voice and music from their iPhones without the need for an intermediary device."

The World Health Organization estimates there are 360 million people - over 5 percent of the world's population - with a disabling loss of hearing, yet current hearing aid production meets less than 10 percent of global need.
As hearing aids become more compatible with leading mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, their accessibility, affordability, and ubiquity may all increase markedly in the coming years.
