Default Apple Said to Launch a "Budget" iMac in 2014

Apple is to get more aggressive on pricing its all-in-one iMac desktop in 2014 according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. In a research note, Kuo mentioned that the Cupertino California company is to launch a new “budget” model next year. Kuo, who has earned a positive reputation for accurately predicting Apple’s future product plans revealed the news in a research note recently. He believes the lower pricing will help boost overall iMac shipments between 10% and 20% year over year in 2014. Currently, Apple’s most affordable 21.5-inch iMac retails for $1,299.

According to Kuo, fewer than expected iMacs were shipped worldwide after the desktop was updated with a redesign in late 2012. This was a result of the price being set too high according to him, which has prompted the company to work on a new “budget iMac model” that will help drive shipments in non-US markets.

The Cupertino California company was surprised with a refresh to its iMac lineup late last month. The latest desktops feature Intel’s Haswell CPUs, 802.11ac WiFi, and GeForce 700-series graphics.

Kuo also mentioned Apple’s third-gen iPad mini, unsurprisingly saying that it will be in the works for its 2014 launch. Few details were offered on the new model as the second-gen iPad mini hasn’t even been announced yet (set to be unveiled on October 22’s media event). He expects the third-gen iPad mini to launch in 2014 and feature the same resolution as the second-gen model, though he does believe Apple will increase the resolution on a dix-gen full-size iPad next year.

We’ll have to wait patiently to see which of these predictions are correct and which aren’t.

    Haha so true.

Not too surprised to hear the iMac didn't sell as expected. You can easily configure a Mac mini with equal or better specs for a cheaper price.

Yea but that price doesn't include a very nice 27" IPS display.

They aren't even close in specs though. I like how you changed all of your prices too, lol.

The performance of the Mac Mini even maxed out won't meet that of the $2000 iMac spec'd as-is.

Rumor probably originates from a bunch of Wall Street traders who want to make a small fortune off Apple when the stock temporarily tanks after the rumor doesn't pan out.

I have 16gb of ram and mine iMac still flies. It's a mid 2011 model. Hasn't slowed down at all either.

Yea I don't get why he is saying that the Mac Mini is faster than an iMac. The specs don't even compare and the new iMac's are quite the sexy high performance package. Given the choice between a maxed out Mac Mini ($1400 + $300 IPS Display) and a 27" iMac for $2000, I would choose the iMac hands down. It has a much faster processor and it has a Nvidia GPU.

    I doubt that.

The pricing models of the iphone 5s to 5c are percentage based... I'd gladly take off 1/2 the price on an imac for the older model..

Also your pricing isn't even accurate...

Anyway i would absolutely love a budget imac, $800 would be superb imo

You're going to sacrifice quality. And Apple isn't willing to make low quality products. They make high end products that sell. Sure, they care about market share but they've always made the best products.

Here we go again with colorful plastic cases on the iMac C

Until they break, and then you will need a second on your house to fixit. Way to many proprietary parts.
