NYC Apple Store: A Line Has Already Formed
Apple isn't scheduled to formally unveil the next generation iPhone(s) for another four days, but there's already a line forming outside of Apple's retail store in New York City.
Of course, just because Apple will show off its iPhone 5S (and possibly iPhone 5C) next week doesn't mean that the devices will be available next week. Per the standard operating procedure around Cupertino, preorders will commence within days of the new iPhone reveal, followed by another week or so before shipments go out.
In other words, the folks in line outside of the Apple Store in the Big Apple will be outside for approximately two weeks.
And they're okay with that.
Here's how the headline over at Venture Beat describes the situation: "These idiots are already lining up at Apple’s NYC store for the new iPhone launch."
"We think the new iPhone will be available on [Sept. 20] … that’s our speculation, since it’s usually out on the Friday after the introduction,” Jon Murphy, one of the "iCampers," said. “So we think we’ll be out here for about two weeks.”
Want to hear the really outrageous part? The two guys profiled in Venture Beat weren't even the first in line.
“I for sure thought we’d be first, no question,” Murphy said. “But there were two people who arrived last night … they’ve apparently done this for three years.”

Oh great. Here comes another Samsung ad berating iPhone owners for not lining up weeks in advance to buy a Galaxy product instead. They can have my jailbreak when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Don't they realize that it won't be in the store till at least the 20th?

I preordered my iPhone 5 3 minutes after preorders started(I got up at 1AM) and my phone arrived just after 9AM launch day. So, I got it maybe an hour after they did. But hey, it's the excitement I guess, plus, it's a geek achievement!

People are brainwashed. It's a telephone and one that isn't going to be as popular once themeing ceases to exist via iOS7. Ever since ditching my 4 for the 5 it's been without a jb and the wow factor has long since faded.

If I was a hipster living off Daddy's money I'd have time to queue days in advance for something that yet does not exist.

I waited 5 days for the ps3. It was a fun experiance but will never do again. I now have 8 ps4's pre ordered so that I am guaranteed one on launch day. If these people don't work, how do they have hundreds to spend on a phone? and if they do work, they can just buy the new iphone on ebay and pay more for it, but it would still be less than what they are losing from missing work. Either way, waiting in lines like this is pointless now and days. The last 4 iPhones I have been able to walk into a AT&T store with no line, on launch day, and get my new iphone. That's in the Los Angeles area too. These people waiting in line for two weeks are clueless

Ok then where do I get a jb for 6.1.4? Clueless lol. Everyone I've known on MMI for years now have a Droid as a secondary or primary device for this very reason.

I wonder if any one has ever been sponsored to stand in line. Basically wear certain clothing as an advertisement and get paid to do it.
Or, REI. Camp out for 30days using only REI gear.

Why can't you just order it online at midnight and get it shipped on releases day...? That's what I'm doing for my 5S...

I waited in line back in 2011 for the grand opening of the Apple Store here in Philly... Which at the time was rumored to have the white iPhone 4. I must admit, those 5 hours were a blast! lol too bad they didn't have the white iPhone though, lol
