Apple's Retail Focus Returns to Tokyo
Eight years after breaking ground on the first Apple retail store in Tokyo, Apple will return to the capital city of Japan with a second store currently in development.
While physical construction hasn't yet begun, it is expected to before year's end. Sources close to the project assert that the store will be primed and ready for a grand opening by early spring.
As an unspoken confirmation of this latest retail venture, Apple is now advertising job openings for the new Tokyo store, which will have three levels - two of which will be underground - covering a total floor area of just over 20,000 square feet.
So even with China remaining the source of Apple's predominant focus in Asia, Japan isn't being forgotten by the iDevice maker.
“For Apple, the Japanese market is appealing in terms of quantity and price," Satoru Kikuchi, an analyst at SMBC Nikko Securities, tells Bloomberg. “There is a room to expand tablet sales and a possibility the Japanese market expands if Apple’s mobile carrier partners increase.”
