Default Roku App Update Allows Users to Stream iOS Camera Roll Content to Set-Top Boxes

In an update to its iOS app recently, Roku added the ability to stream content stored on an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch directly to a number of its set-top TV products. The new Roku for iOS expands on the company’s existing “Play on Roku” feature that allows users to stream photos and music to a Roku device.

Currently available as an iOS-only function, the addition of video streaming only applies to content stored on an iOS device’s Camera Roll. This limits playback to clips shot by an iOS device, unlike Apple’s AirPlay, which allows for movies and other videos stored in the Videos app to be streamed to a television set.

For those of you who are still interested in utilizing the feature, it should be known that the feature is compatible with the Roku 3, Roku 2, Roku HD and Roku LT players along with the Roku Streaming Stick.

As per the usual with many updates, along with the streaming capability, the recent update also brings bug fixes and performance improvements.

Those of you who are interested in downloading the free 3.3 MB app can do so from the App Store.

So is there a way to convert a general app stream (Netflix , hbo go, etc) into a camera roll stream?

Bet someone does a jailbreak tweek of this soon.

Or we start to store favorite converted *.mp4 movies on iPhone to show at a friends house.

Why would you want to do that? The Roku already steams NETFLIX & HBO GO
