    Default BlackBerry Announces More Layoffs

Evidently, the 2013 comeback trail for BlackBerry won't be without a few additional bumps along the road.

The embattled smartphone maker was forced to concede today that another 250 employees are being laid off as the company works to streamline processes and cut-costs even further.

In a statement to AllThingsD, a BlackBerry spokesman confirmed that the company sacked 250 employees working at a Waterloo, Ontario, product-testing facility this past Tuesday.
“These employees were part of the New Product Testing Facility, a department that supports BlackBerry’s manufacturing and R&D efforts,” spokesman Alex Kinsella said. “This is part of the next stage of our turnaround plan to increase efficiencies and scale our company correctly for new opportunities in mobile computing.”

While no one obviously hoped that the BlackBerry maker would be forced to relinquish additional talent, the job cuts aren't a big surprise either. Disappointing first-quarter earnings told the whole story. And until BlackBerry 10 smartphones finally gain critical mass (and no one is certain that they will) the comeback trail will remain a long and treacherous journey.

Apple should buy them when they are cheap to get hold of any IP they have.

Agreed. When BB goes bankrupt, that patents will sell for a lot more than the company is worth, I'd imagine. As long as these patent battles keep going on.

Blackberrys major issue is is current os took far too long to come to market and its handsets are just plain boring and maybe the biggest issue is they have failed to bring app devs onboard

To scale your company correctly??? Lol, you're losing your business, it's not like you have a choice! BB had an opportunity to join the smartphone game but decided to stick with their stock phones...now they're paying the price. Eventually they're going to sell, might as well get it over with, like a band-aid, quick with minimal pain!
